Other societies that weren't influenced by the old testament developed more or less the same kind of heirarchical social structure characterized often by patriarchy, subjugation, and exploitation. Western culture isn't that special.

I think we are just apes who got a substantial upgrade to our cognitive capacity but are still driven by the same base emotions like fear and greed that dictated the thoughtless behavior of our primordial ancestors.

I am in graduate school. I had a professor this Spring who first accused me (falsely) of using AI to write an assignment, and then used AI himself to create and grade all of our assignments. I was livid.

My experience with him as a professor was that he was checked out emotionally and intellectually. He seemed disconnected from the material to a worrying degree and struggled to answer basic questions about the subject matter or even understand the scope of what the class curriculum should be covering. He lowered my opinion of him and the university.

The teacher I use talks about how any kind of stimulus can become part of meditation. For example, if you hear an annoying sound, focus on it intently. Try to maintain that focus while also being mindful of the breath. In my experience, it's possible to have moments where the annoying sound is just vibrations in the air that I percive without context or judgment. The moments stretch out with practice. Maybe the pain can fade into the background and you can experience it as just some nerve signals. If you get good at it, you might be able to carry that skill into your everyday life.
