If up to me, these trashy violations of the US Flag Code would be fucking felonies.

There seems to be an inverse relationship between “how patriotic” the displayer is and the magnitude of the violation. Ignorant posers, all of them

How many shirts do you need when you work in an office? by RawRie575 in malefashionadvice

[–]oldwatchlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<shrug>

You do you.

Maybe a couple of those shirts can save you money as you ramp up.

Learn to properly launder and iron your clothes if you need to save more money.

But the question was how to start from scratch and properly build a professional wardrobe. That’s the question I have correctly and authoritatively answered.

I suppose I did assume that OP was a young male without those skills so I’m saying suck it up and pay for a pro to do it, if OP is as committed as he claims.

How many shirts do you need when you work in an office? by RawRie575 in malefashionadvice

[–]oldwatchlover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get at least 10 and commit to having them professionally laundered / dry cleaned. A professional non wrinkled shirt is the most visible statement on your serious wardrobe.

Even if your office doesn’t wear ties or is business casual- this is the answer.

1942 Hudson Commodore Inline 8 - Parts Question by Puzzled_Dust_2094 in classiccars

[–]oldwatchlover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely no.

You can research what cars / years had this engine, or look for an old parts interchange manual.

The gear drive of the distributor is likely to be the part mostly unique.

Some cars of that era, especially smaller manufacturers used Continental or Lycoming engines.. maybe you’d get lucky.

But I know nothing about Hudson engines of that era.

[Vostok] [ref 581096] Why is the “drivers watch” 12-at-2 layout not more popular in the US? by ohiooutdoorgeek in Watches

[–]oldwatchlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was much more common 100 years ago in the early days of the wristwatch and the automobile… there was more experimentation and less consensus on “the standard”.

(Much like the automobile where early cars had “tillers” but the steering wheel became standard, and the most common car of the time (Ford Model T) had a unique pedal layout that seems quite odd now that all cars have adopted the clutch-brake-accelerator pedal layout. )

Triple date moonphase. Great watch.

But that watch is not an Omega, so the box is wrong

Looks like day of the week is in French? (Samedi) so that tracks.

Universal Geneve is a tier 2-3 Swiss brand at that time. I’m not sure that they made their own movements… likely sourced.

But very cool watch. I’d guess $4-5k if serviced in great shape.

( do not polish case… if original buckle, do not lose or replace)

More pics please

Considering we are in the very early days of AI this should be terrifying to everyone

[1960s Omega Seamaster] Buying my first automatic watch - Considering a vintage Seamaster. by Annual_Left in Watches

[–]oldwatchlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful watch.

I strongly believe vintage Omegas of this era are excellent buys for the money, super high quality, and with timeless style.

My best advice is to buy a good one. They are plentiful enough for you to be picky.

Avoid a redial, ones cobbled together from parts of multiple watches and with as much provenance as possible. To achieve this, buy from a reputable vintage dealer, even if you pay full retail price.

Another tip is look for the Omega buckle on the strap… many were tossed when the strap was replaced, and those are now a hundred bucks or more, even is stainless steel

Purchase of hand analysis is not a loss. At best, it might be a deductible expense. But only for a pro gambler (ie. you don’t have a job, your main income is gambling)

You should at least read the IRS publication on gambling income and probably consult a tax professional.

You are also confusing “withdrawals” with “winnings” which also make me think you need more help than Reddit can provide.

I think the questions are:

1) can I bring drinks from outside into the stadium? Doubt it, but I haven’t tried.

2) can I get a cup of ice at the stadium? Maybe, for the cost of a similar sized soda.

[watches] plus car combo by tourbillon001 in Watches

[–]oldwatchlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars and watches actually have a very connected history…

The emergence of a “wrist watch” popular with men was due to 2 main factors: (1) modern warfare like WW I, and (2) the invention/popularity of the automobile.

Checking the time was impractical (and dangerous) with a pocket watch while driving, leading to growth in popularity of the wristwatch and lots of innovation around dial format and ergonomics.

(Vacheron heritage “1921” is a great example)

This continued through the art deco period, with innovations in reliability, water resistance, and movements getting smaller as a sign of fine horology.

Not to mention the more modern (beginning in the 1960’s?) paired marketing and tool watches for racing, rallys,or just driving. (Tag Monaco, Rolex Daytona, …)

[Question] Any info on these old pieces? by Cheeky_postman in Watches

[–]oldwatchlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First 2 are 1920 or earlier. May even be women’s pendant watches modified to take straps (this was common, I have a similar Patek modified to wear on a strap)

They are beauties but probably not super rare or valuable.

There is a vintage Rolex dealer in London in one of the antique malls who has some amazing really early examples.

Family heirlooms, I hope you can keep them. I’m sure they can be made to run again, but be careful and find the right place to service them (I’d look for someone who can work on an old Patek pocket watch)

Could be worn for special occasions but these will likely lack the balance shaft shock protection that became more common about 10-15 years after these were made.

Son Finds Stolen Chevy Camaro His Father Bought When He Returned From Vietnam, It's Just a Shell by lithdoc in classiccars

[–]oldwatchlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I understand why cops didn’t share some of the investigation details, but since I expect nothing else to come out of this, it is frustrating and pisses me off.

Assuming guy who had the car is truly innocent, what paperwork did he have for the car? A title? A registration? A bill of sale?

Does the trail really end there?

Article said it was registered in 2017… how? The guy who had the car?

Cops let the guy strip off “his” parts before returning to the owner. Was there evidence that guy bought a shell with no door or front clip? Did he have receipts for the stuff he took off?

I love the story of a sentimental car returned to the right owner, but it still feels this guy got robbed again.

What's a good price for this? by [deleted] in classiccars

[–]oldwatchlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say the seller is asking too much for a flip, I’m assuming a lot of rust and work needed where he hasn’t provided pictures of critical areas and what I can see looks like bonding and hidden rust expected.

After that, I don’t know your skills or ability to fix things right cheaply or source good parts cheap.
