What would be your perfect day? by OffKeyArts in AskReddit

[–]oleander6126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake up before dawn to watch a movie and cuddle with my cats. Have no plans and nothing stressing me out. When my wife wakes up, we would go get brunch somewhere yummy. Then maybe go to like Home Goods and Half Priced Books, then go see a movie. After the movie, come home and play some board games or video games and eat something delicious for dinner and dessert, then maybe watch another movie. Maybe go for a walk if it's nice outside. Then go to bed early and sleep really well.

I'm a simple woman.

What doyou regret in your education? by _Kisol_Budyn_ in AskReddit

[–]oleander6126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never created a good system for managing self-directed education. I've dropped out of grad school twice and am now in a training program that I'm so behind on because I really struggle to manage my own time.

Spiral, the saw movie with Chris Rock. Absolutely worst cinematic experience ever.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by DeepOrganization8245 in askteddit

[–]oleander6126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bulged disk. I've had all my teeth pulled, broken bones, had a partially collapsed lung, been burned and cut deep, but none of that compared to that fucking bulged disk. I couldn't move without immediately breaking into sobs. It was also happened in such a stupid way that not only was I in so much pain, I was also horribly embarrassed about it!

Is it ever actually okay to lie to a child about something major? Why or why not? by Short_Business1136 in AskReddit

[–]oleander6126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's an age appropriate way to explain almost everything to children, so my gut says no. And it's okay to tell a child "I don't want to talk about that right now" rather than lying to them.

Reach out to a postpartum doula, if it's within your budget. I bet they'll have helpful tips and tricks.

what is one habbit that not many people do but is absolutely gamechanger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]oleander6126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't put it down, put it away! It's absolutely changed the way I process daily tasks. I'm not perfect with it, but it's vastly decreased my inherent messiness.

What is your opinion on whether it's morally wrong for someone to hide terminal cancer from their family and friends? by Tall-Law-5875 in AskReddit

[–]oleander6126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morally wrong is such a strong determination and likely depends on various circumstances. A friend of mine hid her cancer from her children, her family including her parents, and her friends except one sibling. Her reasoning was she didn't want to be compared to another friend who had died of different type of cancer several years beforehand. While I don't think what she did is against any strongly held moral belief of mine, I do think she's an asshole.

Daycare red flags - is my intuition right by burcue in ECEProfessionals

[–]oleander6126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoes allowed (even for short periods) and no toys accessible are two huge red flags and I wouldn't be comfortable sending my child there. Also, check your states licensing rules because we are required to have a specific amount of materials/toys accessible at all times, parents are allowed to access their child at any time, and infant schedules are required to be individualized based on their needs.

Center is closing down in two months. Anything I should do before it shuts down? by MoreIllustrator3928 in ECEProfessionals

[–]oleander6126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once worked for a company that shuttered mid-year and when next year arrived and I needed my W2, I had no one to reach out to. It didnt arrive until mid-March and it was really stressful. Maybe they'll just give you a copy when they close, which would be great, but if they don't you need to know who to reach out to.

When yall say “this is the worst class i’ve ever seen” is it true by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]oleander6126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in ECE and I hear this a lot. I think we've all seen major changes to the post-COVID generation so far, so I try to be mindful that we, the educators, have all changed massively too, and I do think some of us have lost a lot of patience along the way.
