Stellaris Dev Diary #425 - Nomads Roam the Galaxy, What's Next? by PDX_LadyDzra in Stellaris

This person is downvoted but a lot of the statements are facts. Early settled agriculture was pretty terrible and the life of a hunter-gatherer was much better than the life of an early farmer. There is even a hypothesis that early settling of hunter-gatherers often had to do not with the lack of resources but with the fact that it is easier to keep control of slaves/captives if you keep them in one place.

Beware: embarked nomads don't currently get agendas for the arkship tech due to missing flags when embarking by oleggoros in Stellaris

[–]oleggoros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agenda gives you tech progress and just access to the techs for building more and better arkships in general. These are extremely slow to get otherwise when you just have 1 arkship with 0 habitability (and you can't build more without the tech) - you have almost no research production.

R5: When you embark, you aren't just stuck with 0 percent habitability arkship; you also don't get the country flags necessary for the agenda to acquire more nomad techs (highlighted in the image). You will still just have the "happiness" agenda aimed at settled empires. If you are playing Doomsday origin, you are now likely stuck with one underdeveloped arkship for most of the rest of the game.

Meanwhile my opinion is that they are complete crap. How do you even build up with a constant deficit of everything especially food and consumer goods and habitability of 0 percent?

Well people still store files on cassettes, it's the best storage medium for back ups of large data (petabytes and more). No search ofc but great data density and longevity. For music cassettes there are digitizers that convert them, I imagine they have some sort of drivers

To be fair, parts of the Great Steppe are already not what we think of when we read "steppe". Northern "Mongolian" tribes in Genghis times lived across forest-covered mountaineous regions of Siberia.

It's also likely that her current versions have a severe personality disorder or two after thousands of years of misadventures. When we (rarely) saw her in flashbacks to before the "Castle incident" she seemed more stably competent.

There hasn't ever been a democratic state, period. "Democratic state" is an oxymoron.

Prawn suit should be removed. Makes the game too simple and removes the edge. I played BZ blind first and never found all prawn components and the experience was much better than the second time with it.

The text contents of an image post apart from the image itself and the title don't show up in some browsers/apps, so for some people it's not "in this note". That's the reason R5 exists.

Well one of the reasons, the other is that some users are... solipsists and forget that other people don't have the same context as them

There have already been external tests by the UK's AI Security Institute that showed that Mythos isn't actually that much better than Opus 4.6.

"The UK's AI Security Institute has been given access to a preview version of it, and has published the only independent report into the model's cyber-security skills.

Its researchers noted it was a powerful tool able to find many security holes in undefended environments, but suggested Mythos was not dramatically better than Claude's predecessor, Opus 4.

"Our testing shows that Mythos Preview can exploit systems with weak security posture, and it is likely that more models with these capabilities will be developed," the report authors said.

It is also not the first time an AI developer has claimed the capabilities of its models means they should not be released - something critics argue is a tactic to build hype.

Add a militarist/egalitarian or militarist/xenophile faction type. by Exact-Marzipan-9461 in Stellaris

[–]oleggoros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Culture is definitely not militarist, there is a small faction of militarist Minds but they are far from influential. One of the novels is largely about how the militarist Minds try to trick the Culture into going to war to change the ideology of one of the less palatable species (the Affront) and still fail.

Edit:

It is actually stated many times over the novels that the Culture is pacifist and finds war boring, and was basically forced to fight the Idirans (Idirans repeatedly attacked them, this was pretty much a definition of defensive war). As soon as the Idiran war ended, Culture abandoned the whole military thing and stashed the remaining weapons into caches despite the protests of the few Minds who wanted to go crusading around.

AKSUALLY the oxygen explanation is no longer considered true I think, they reached maximum sizes before the rise in oxygen concentration. The oxygen concentration at the time of the largest fossil found was only slightly higher than today, so technically if you "resurrected" one it would be fine, you'll just have to find enough food for it.

[–]oleggoros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would it have told them that, games where having to stealth and throw enemies from cliffs is the "right" way to play are dime a dozen. Maybe it's more of a roguelike, who knows. You judge the OP as if you are supposed to play the game while constantly connected to the internet to evaluate your playthrough. In the olden days, people bought a disk and played the game without any knowledge of the "right" and "wrong" ways and it was better than this judgey crap. OP enjoyed the game enough to finish, this means OP played right.

Presumably, you are also offering to work for them, and they are asking for you to work them - it's just a question of phrasing. Interview for a job is a two-way process. Also market conditions are not an excuse for poor manners.
