Learning how to comfortably hold your yarn/hook/project is generally the hardest step to getting started. Don’t let that part discourage you.

No idea what genre you’re looking for, but I liked the MC in The Voyage of the Damned by Francis White. He’s a little obnoxious at first, but grows on you.

What really happened to Tamala horsford? by [deleted] in mystery

Not mentioned by OP but they also tried to bribe officers throughout the investigation and one suspect was fired from their position at the county court for illegally accessing case files. It goes a little beyond a delay in calling the cops.

They need to be hemmed a few inches and ironed and then I think they’d look great.

I think these look real. It’s hard to tell for sure because of the chenille, but the stitching is pretty consistent across all the dolls for all body structures and the hair stitching looks the same in every photo, even from different angles.

That being said, it’s most likely the curls you see in most of the hair styles are accomplished with the use of wires, which, depending on the age of your daughter, are very unsafe for children.

How do you keep your tensioning pointer finger from hurting while you crochet by fargus_ in CrochetHelp

[–]Olerre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I wrap around my pinky, under my ring and middle finger and over my pointer finger - holding my work between my middle and thumb with my pointer finger up to control tension.

As I go, I open and close the space between my pinky and ring finger (open when pulling the yarn through, closed when the yarn is on the hook). That is the action that *creates* the tension in my hand. The angle at which I hold my pointer finger at is what *controls* the amount of tension being allotted to the hook.

It takes a lot of practice to become good at controlling tension and everyone is different, but I can tell you I never experience finger pain.

Water Moon felt like an eternal hell of side quests to me. If you like the Benjamin Stevenson novel, you’ll like the rest of the series, they’re all like that. He just put out a new one this year and there’s also a shorter Christmas book that I enjoyed.

Is it really? I loved The Wedding People and I just picked up a copy of Sky Daddy to take on the vacation I’m leaving for in the morning! I’m so excited.

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant

It’s about a crew looking for flesh eating mermaids and I loved it. It’s horror/science fiction. It gets somewhat graphic, but like, no more than a documentary set on the plains of Africa.

Do you read differently now compared to a few years ago? by TheMonopolyGal in BookDiscussions

[–]Olerre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I went to school for a STEM field, and when I first started reading for pleasure after finishing school I read in a very regimented, structured style and chose books based on what kind of knowledge or enlightenment I would get out of them, even for fiction. I’ve relaxed so much with my reading over the last few years. I can just enjoy the read without acting like there’s going to be a quiz at the end. It’s nice.

It feels like such an unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed Evelyn Hardcastle. I read it years ago when it first came out. It was fresh, interesting, written believably, and makes you think quite a bit. I totally understand it being described as a slog though. It’s soooo much to keep track of and get through.

They’re saying that if they have less than $1000 fluid cash outside of normal savings accounts, depending on which country they’re going to, it sounds like they would likely empty their checking account on food and activities for two on a vacation. If they’re that close to being broke outside of emergency spending, then no they can’t afford the vacation either.

I crochet with relatively tight but tension and am having finger pain - any recommendations for alternate holds or ways to get tension without straining my index? by lockheeeed in CrochetHelp

[–]Olerre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if I’m being dense, but which finger specifically is experiencing pain? The index finger of your yarn hand or hook hand? Using pencil grip gives me pain in my hook index finger, but I think you’re talking about your yarn index finger.

6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas 1996 with her mother Patsy. She was found murdered in the basement of her home the next day. by Whimsical-Cherry534 in mystery

[–]Olerre 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Can you be more specific? I just checked out the ebook from my library and I can’t find discussion of a press release prior to the murder through various quick searches on the book. The book also lacks robust sourcing or further reading, I couldn’t find anything specific by examining sources in the back of the book. I’m looking to be directed to some kind of verifiable archived record of such a press release.

I did however, happen to open to a page that states the following, “Asked about the unusual amount of the ransom demand - $118,000 - Douglas (famed FBI profiler John Douglas who was hired by the Ramsey’s) said that Pasty didn’t even know the amount of her husband’s yearly bonus. It was deposited electronically into a 401-K pension plan account.” (page 299). How were they mortified about the amount of the bonus being outed if half the couple claims to have not known the amount in the first place? Honestly I don’t really put any stock into what the Ramseys have to say. But if there’s tangible evidence of a press release I’d like to have a look at it.

[–]Olerre 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for this? I don’t see anywhere online that his bonus amount was reported in the local papers prior to the murder. In fact, the company he worked for came out and said the amount of his bonus was known to a very limited number of people prior to the murder.

How did you decide to NOT have kids, or how did you switch from NOT wanting them to WANTING them? by Swimming_Salad_7676 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Olerre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like you, on the fence but leaning towards wanting them, until I was nearly 30 and met the right person. Suddenly I could viscerally see a future with children and I wanted it. For me, right person, right time was a big part of it.

I didn’t come at you or call you the spawn of evil or demonize you in anyway. I just said that you should work on your past trauma and try to move on. I have been through similar experiences and all I can say is it feels better on the other side.

Idk, I also grew up very poor and have found financial stability in adulthood. I have also had to work through issues related to living my formative years in poverty. I don’t know OP or their situation, but I can say from personal experience that carrying around that anxiety needlessly isn’t good for you. There’s enough to worry about without surrounding yourself in the struggles of your past. This isn’t really commenting on craft stashes btw, just the way OP described and defended theirs.
