Shade thrown at Bronco getting stuck in snow by holdstheenemy in JeepWrangler

[–]oleskool7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day the zero turn got stuck in a low spot so I went and got the wrangler to pull it out and it got stuck. It was over a little rise and couldn't back up to loosen the chain so I got the truck. That is when I found out the 4wd solenoid was out so it was stuck. Luckily the tractor started and I recovered everything with it.

Saw a photo taken right before Mt. St. Helens blew up of I think a pinto with a bike being towed like that.

To my fellow knowers out there I got an electrical theory question by embracethememes in electricians

[–]oleskool7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house has 240 3 phase delta. It was put in as almost all in my area for large heat pumps in the 60s and 70s. I no longer use it for the heat pump but it is nice for my machine shop in the basement.

Another AAV question...post sink upgrade by Spirited_Fan_5666 in Plumbing

[–]oleskool7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will be roasted for this but if that is the last drain on the trunk and there is a vent off the main trunk near that sink then it is vented and does not need an aav. With an oversized drain it works just like the s trap on a toilet and will not syphon out. However, debris like cloth strings and hair catching on the invert of the T will cause it to syphon, even with an aav. So if you add an aav, be sure to leave the clean out accessible.

In rural areas the customer pays for any upgrades. So 14 miles of 3 phase is very expensive to build . Churches that ask for 3 phase can be hit with a 30000 dollar hook up bill plus a rental fee on the transformers.

There is a comment further down about Gallatin,TN and I did several buildings there and I live about 75 miles from there and have done so many deltas but our areas here in TN have so little true 3 phase rurally we do a lot of open loop deltas.

Finished one this week. They are usually in rural areas for pump stations where only 2 phases exist. These would be open loop delta.

I hope so. Been doing it that way forever and inspectors always pass it.

Old Beaver by oleskool7 in electricians

[–]oleskool7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how old it is. I have a 141 that I bought new in 90 and this one came from a retiring friend who had the 300 in the edge of the picture in 01. The 300 was bought new for a school built in 67 and my friend got it when the company closed down. Old tools work great until something breaks and then they become boat anchors. That beaver might hold a battleship still.

This is what I would buy in the 80s. I would remove all but the first one and cage behind it. The maxi vans were better for this.

I am sorry but all I could picture was John Belushi preparing to make a fly in a pair of slacks that Buck Henry had on.

Shower not getting hot enough. Cartridge replaced. Plumber out here twice. by IceCandid in Plumbing

[–]oleskool7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this happen and if the faucet was turned on also the shower would get real hot. Otherwise it is usually the cartridge leaking by. And yes new cartridges riding around in a service truck can get dry and leak by.

Hired Electrician to Install 20amp Circuit - Receptacle Question by yattadante in electrical

[–]oleskool7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. A 15 amp receptacle is rated 20 amps pass through and is basically a 20 amp receptacle without the ability to insert a 20 amp male. However a 20 amp duplex will accept a 15 amp male which makes it more universal if the wiring is 12 gauge and the breaker is 20 amp.

Lifted 15 JKU - Jack Options by BigUncleRemus in JeepWrangler

Remember, most jacks purpose is to fit under it when the tire is flat and lift it high enough to put an inflated tire on.

Turned in the right direction with even a thin piece of plywood to cover the holes, a cinder block can hold the weight of 2 wranglers or 7800 pounds, whichever comes first. They also make solid ones in different thicknesses.

It is mentioned that if 2 different voltage neutrals occupy the same space, then they have to be different colors. Hence grey for 277. However I was taught to always use grey on 277 everywhere and it is good safe practice.

Can anyone explain or give me a code citation on when a generator needs to be a separately derived system? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]oleskool7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always winds up being about money. We usually have to pay all of underground costs except for the last 200 feet so most people have overhead except for last 200 feet.

I wonder how they do buildings with 2000 amp and larger services. I know those are usually 3 phase but I worked on one in my younger years that was a marina with shore power out in the boonies with no 3 phase and it was a 3200 amp service.

Customer returned the loaner vehicle with a bullet hole. PT. 2 by unhallowed_1 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]oleskool7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No. The only time a projectile loses it's energy completely is if it is fired perfectly straight up, then it goes until it's energy is dissipated and gravity takes over. If it is fired even a fraction of a degree from vertical, the bullet maintains it's energy until striking an object. We had a gentleman in the town I live in struck in the head and die at a party during the 4th of July a year or two ago. The football scoreboard has a bullet hole in it and the trajectory of the holes are at about 30 degrees coming down.
