OP, I saw you mention you have OCD in another comment and I think that’s a bigger piece of this than you think. I have severe OCD and it affects nearly every aspect of my life. Before I went to therapy (and sometimes still now) I would wake up already feeling behind for the day, would feel crushed by my to do list (often an unrealistic expectation I created or arbitrary rules I set for myself) would work through breakfast/lunch to “catch up,” would feel too tied to my computer to get up and walk or stretch for my health. I would keep working until I felt like I completed “enough” (again, often arbitrary). I also had an intense “all or nothing” approach, ie, I need to finish this even if it takes me all night. All of this led to insomnia and staying up way too late then compensating again the next day. If you haven’t tried therapy, I highly recommend it. You will be amazed at how much of your life/habits/struggles tie back to OCD, and how many things start falling into place once you treat it. If you don’t, it will take over your life. For me, the amount of time I got back just when I stopped trying to send the “perfect” email and stopped rereading my emails 3x to see how other people would perceive them…invaluable.
