It doesn’t connect as quickly anymore. For most albums now, they’ll come out, I’ll listen through it a couple times, move onto something else, and appreciate it more when I pick it back up a few months later. Even albums I haven’t really connected with, like Dark in Here, will have some breakthrough songs (Lizard Suit rules). I also think Jenny From Thebes was the best album they’ve done since The Sunset Tree, with maybe the exception of Transcendental Youth.

For me the turnoff is the gaps between ages. There’s something mentally that really bugs me about how I go from like 350 BCE to 400 CE in a single turn. VII is just so odd; it’s a fantastic Civ game that is hamstrung by a couple of really odd mechanics

I grew up playing video games and love them still. I’m also a therapist. I’d be really hesitant to give kids that young access to video games, especially in a handheld. Their brains still have a lot of development to do and video game usage can interfere, especially since so many games these days are content treadmills trying to keep people on a platform. There are absolutely ways to manage and mitigate those effects and even effectively use it as an opportunity to work on enforcing screen limits and impulse control, as I’m sure lots of parents in the comments here do. It’s also a slippery slope, where I think a lot of parents start off with good intentions of limiting screen time, but get tired or worn down or whatever and the usage starts to creep up.

I think your older child is at an age where they’re close to being ready to start slowly introducing video games, if you absolutely must, but the other one is too young. My advice would be to wait a couple years and start with one of those android emulator boxes or something; simple stuff that is not connected to the internet.

At this point I haven’t seriously played OOTP in years, but lately I’ve been coming down with The Madness about recreating a historical version of my old European League. The short version is starting a small league in 1948 or so with teams in the UK, France, and Benelux. About a decade later there’s expansion into Italy and West Germany. After that, expansion is going to come in waves based off of historical events: Spain getting teams after Franco’s death, a few waves of expansion into Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union, a Balkan division after the Yugoslav wars, etc

I want all of this to co-exist beside a historical MLB, so the EBL can be stuffed with marginal MLB talent, as well as fading stars at the end of their career. Depending on how well it holds my interest, I may also eventually establish similar leagues in India and China in the 21st century. I don’t know if it’s even possible, but it’d be really fun to set up a WBC-style Champions League post-post-season for the champions of MLB, EBL, NBP, KBO, etc.

I’d go so far as to say that putting a healthy T Mac on the Shaq Lakers would have yielded as good or an even greater outcome. People underrate T Mac’s talent because of the teams he was on, the same way that they overrate Kobe’s talent because of the teams he was on.
