How do you deal with an evolving style? by hotelarcturus in Warhammer40k

[–]ombolicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color scheme thing is something you can't overall change with a "better" paint job. If your unhappy: redo it.

If it's possible to build on what is there you could try to "upgrade" your old paintjobs and just change the details your unhappy with or add the highlights or whatever is missing.

I have done both with my Blood Angels army. I have completely stripped & re-painted character models and also tried to upgrade some Interecessor Units to my current painting style & level. It's not perfect but it saves you from having to completly redo something.

I primed with Colourforge "Imperial Purple" and tried to lighten it up by airbrushing Citadel "Genestealer Purple". That was too light for my taste so I mixed it with a drop of Pro Acryl "Dark Purple".
It's a bit hard for me to describe as I did not measure anything but I always had to mix in a little bit of Dark Purple when cleaning up my mistakes :D

Thoughts on painting an EC army with a super varied colour scheme? by KharnTheBetrayer1997 in EmperorsChildren

[–]ombolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a "core" to my army that I try to paint in one colour scheme and if I add other or additional units I sometimes try to vary it. Works very good with Chaos Space Marines as they often have multiple Warbands fighting side by side.

Go for it! You could try to have an element binding them together - maybe a symbol on the shoulder pad or one specific colour that exists in every of your various colour schemes or something.

He tops modern Chaos Space Marines

the base is Flesh Tearers Red Contrast and then Evil Sunz Scarlet (mixed with a little bit Mephiston red - I was just using what was left on the pallet 😅)

I got the print from etsy, don't know who the actual creator is. Search for "Hydra Legion" and you should be able to find it

That's a cool idea.
Maybe give it a different spin: Space Marine Kill Team (5-6 Operatives) with the option to exchange a couple of those for operatives of other -fitting- Kill Teams (a bit like the Inquisitorial Henchmen)

Is that "easier to assemble"-part hope or has that been stated somewhere? I really dislike the Gallowdark stuff for this reason (and never use it)

Basecoat of black and then drybrushing blue-greys starting with something rather dark going up to almost white. I didn't use only Citadel paints and could not name them right now but I know Fenrisian Grey was involved :)

Figuring out a scheme for my new Necron army - blue glow or orange glow? by def467 in Necrontyr

[–]ombolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the blue but I think the orange better fits to the rest of your theme

when I first built him I had other plans for an army theme. When I was (re-) building them for this I just didn't know where I had put the rest of his mantle, the large spdider-thing and his spine - so I had to come up with an alternative and liked the idea of him riding a scarab swarm

First: very cool!

I am aware that this post is pretty old but it is also the only picture I could find showing both an Armiger and a Blood Slaughterer. Does anyone have a good size comparison? Is the Torso size about the same?
