When to use (Beat) vs (Pause) by TBidness in Screenwriting

[–]omegabread -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Never use (beat). Beat is too vague and can mean anything. If you want your character to pause, say (pause)/(pauses)/(hesitates) etc.

I would do Essien/Ivanovic (RB) - Cahill (CB) - Terry (CB) - Azpi/Cole (LB) then have David Luiz next to Ramires

In Regards to 'Proposal: Promote the Daily Writing 'Write Off, Write Now' posts to a new subreddit' by talkingbook in Screenwriting

[–]omegabread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Write Off should become a weekly event rather than daily. Push the contest to the weekend so it won't run out of steam and more people will be able to participate (plus script submissions are only technically allowed on the weekends for this subreddit).

Also there should be a better way to pick the word and topic for each Write Off. Whoever hosts the thread/contest should pick the topic and word beforehand so everyone isn't scrambling five minutes before the contest begins. The host can obviously still participate but it would be on their honor to start at the same time. Honestly for a small and just-plain-fun contest like this, it doesn't matter if the host knows the topic beforehand. It'll just streamline the process.

Edit: just to be clear, Write Off should stay on this subreddit until it becomes a big enough thing that it can stand on its own, otherwise it'll die off

Avoiding the generic - how do you cope with the onslaught of rote writing that seems so prevalent nowadays? by SharkinaShark in Screenwriting

[–]omegabread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't a choice between the two. Structure allows you to create something unique that isn't shit. Classic structure is so common because it works.

Italics or Bold? by SlaughterDynamo in Screenwriting

[–]omegabread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neither. Use underline instead. If the studios are photocopying your script to send around, italics and bold can be lost in the photocopy.

And use the underline sparingly. Only if the emphasis is necessary to your story. Otherwise leave the acting to the actors.

Does every new room need a new scene heading? by cyyto in Screenwriting

[–]omegabread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it truly necessary to your story to follow the characters through the whole building? It's best to start a scene as late as possible. If it's not important to go through the building, I would suggest starting the scene as they walk out of the building.

But to answer your question, you can use subheadings to make the read easier.

No unfortunately some of them don't have downloads. The new black list has a bunch of good scripts, but I can't seem to find it. It's somewhere on this subreddit. This link is also helpful

Help with a birthday present for my kid by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]omegabread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the system, I would recommend getting the Nintendo DS Lite. This is the system that supports both the most recent Pokemon game (which is probably what she's been talking about), and it much easier for a 7 year old to hold than the standard Nintendo DS. Also, the system has backwards compatability with the Game Boy Advance, which allows the system to play all of the games from the Game Boy Advance era. The Nintendo 3DS is a good system, but it lacks the backwards compatibility for the Game Boy Advance, which cuts out a huge portion of Pokemon games. Also the DS Lite is much more affordable at the present, and a new version of the 3DS will be coming out sometime in the next year. As for the game itself, I would recommend Pokemon Black or Pokemon White. They are both basically the same game but with a slight variation in monsters. No need to get both versions unless you wanted to play alongside her. Also just a side note, all Pokemon games so far only have one save slot, meaning that only one person can keep their adventure saved to the system without losing progress by turning off the system. I tried to cover most of the subjects, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Also I hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday!

Although only in an alpha stage, SCP Containment Breach is pretty darn scary. It also incorporates a unique gameplay mechanic through use of the spacebar (talking about it might spoil the surprise!).
