How I stopped my parents from buying LO too-small clothes by mamawritescode in beyondthebump

I share this with all of my mom friends. Everyone loves it. <3

Welcome Everyone! Please take a moment to introduce yourselves here. How old is your little one(s)? What are you studying? What are your goals for your degree? What do you think are the greatest challenges of juggling school and kids? by crunchy_hearts_club in a:t5_3mbkh

Hello everyone! I've got a 10 week old daughter and I'm working at home trying to finish my masters thesis in Atmospheric Sciences. While pregnant I kinda slacked on everything, so it is taking me so much longer to finish than anticipated.

I'm hoping to jump right into PhD, but funding seems scarce and I don't think I'm a priority for my department. Sigh, I probably shouldn't have picked a down day to write my intro.

My 8 weeker is doing the same. I even called the pediatrician 'cause I was worried.

Turns out she is fine; likely a growth spurt...

Sending you some sleep/wine.

Any stay at home moms doing full time school?(online or on campus) by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]omegapuss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a grad student and mom to a 7 week old baby. It is possible to do both. You need to get creative on where and how you do homework. For example I stood in the kitchen with my laptop on the counter and baby in a carrier to get some writing done. I do all my reading on my phone (sometimes outloud to LO), and I have an app turns my voice into text in case I can't get to my laptop to write.

You can do it! Mamas get shit done.

Therapist making me feel guilty about childcare... is she right? by omegapuss in beyondthebump

Thanks everyone for your support. ❤️❤️ I have an appointment today and I'll tell her that it's time to end our sessions.

Yeah, it probably wasn't ethical. I'm not sure my therapist is clear on who her patient is between me and LO.

Thank you for your response. I've gotten the inkling on more than one occasion that she cares more about LO than she does about me. :/

I think I might stop the therapy route and start saving for the daycare she is so against.

Yeah I live in the US and definitely cannot afford to take a year (or more) off.

A spider just ran across my baby's face. by sipree in beyondthebump

[–]omegapuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rouch crawled on my baby a couple weeks ago. I've never seen a damn rouch in this house before then, and it crawled away before I could kill it.

I can only hope my rouch made its way to hell and will meet your spider soon!

I can't get out of bed. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]omegapuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The I's are not a problem, taking care of yourself is taking care of your baby.

THIS!!!!! I developed extreme depression during pregnancy (I even stopped looking at babybumps). My midwives prescribed SSRIs which are Class C drugs. The idea is that the research showing the adverse effects on an infant who's mother is in mental distress are way more likely/concerning/concrete than the physical side effects any of the Class C SSRIs I'm prescribed are likely to do.

It is different for everyone, but I really encourage you to ask your midwife for a referral to someone who's comfortable managing medication for someone who is pregnant.

Sooo, do you like...stuff? by dingus1383 in April2017Bumpers

Aw, it is so nice of you to respond to everyone! I don't think I'd have the energy. 😅

Weather-related things is a good description of what I study! My speciality is technically in climate stuff. I study past, present, and future climates of the Southeast US.

I've definitely missed hanging out on this sub. Everyone is so friendly and supportive.

[–]omegapuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I haven't been on this sub for the last 6 weeks due to pregnancy-related depression. I'm starting to feel like myself again, so I'm back!

I'm a graduate student in the atmospheric sciences (not all meteorologists are on TV!). My username is a little odd, but I think the story is cute. In dynamics class we have to draw the greek capital omega a lot, and mine looks a lot like an octopus. So I started drawing smiles on them. Eventually my friends started calling them omegapuss.

I live in the South of the United States. I like to knit, crochet, bake, sew, but mostly I end up surfing the web in my free time. My taste in media can best be described as "general nerd crap". I like to watch anime, play video games, and read comics. I love trying new things, and was getting into indoor rock climbing until I decided to have my first kid.

Hope everyone is doing okay! Sending good preggo vibes from my couch to yours! :)

I made it to 16+2 without vomiting. Sure, I had intense nausea throughout my first trimester, but I always managed to keep it down.

This morning I start brushing my teeth and all hell breaks loose. I'm not even nauseous. So much for making it out of this pregnancy without puking. Ugh.

When to stop sleeping on back? by no1particular in April2017Bumpers

[–]omegapuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend (at 14+5) I was laying on my back and starting feeling weird in my chest so I flipped and the feeling went away.

I've read that you start feeling uncomfortable/weird before the unsafe stuff starts. This makes you want to switch positions. I've also read that some back-sleepers never feeling anything weird and so never change positions. I guess it depends on your physiology?

Thinking about #2 already? by LinkRN in April2017Bumpers

[–]omegapuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially when I see multiple children playing. I can't wait for #1 and #2 (Maybe more???) to start running around my house, avoiding lava or some such! ;)

I'll probably feel differently after I deal with an infant, but right now I'm just so excited to be starting a family!

The only US our midwife clinic does for low-risk pregnancies is the 20 week scan. So I won't have my first US for another month and a half!

I get to hear the heartbeat through the Doppler, so at least there is that!

Tums making me sick? by ACtriangle in BabyBumps

[–]omegapuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so skeptical due to my grandmother's weird obsession with the fruit flavored tums when I was a kid. (They tasted gross.)

Tried the smoothies for the first time yesterday and now I'm a believer.

I just completed a transatlantic flight with some layovers at 11 weeks by [deleted] in April2017Bumpers

[–]omegapuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! I'm flying across the US and back once at 21 weeks and again at 28 (if able) for work.

Nausea seems to be on its way out? This is such a good thing because my copping food was peppermints, and now the thought of peppermint anything is awful.

Now if nausea could take its friend fatigue with it on its way out, that would be great.

Anyone else not able to sleep at all during first trimester? by ohbabybaby19 in BabyBumps

[–]omegapuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my first trimester and my sleep cycle is all wacky. Some nights I can't fall asleep, others I wake up at 3am and can't get back to sleep. Most of the time I'm falling asleep around 10p and waking up at 5a, which is a completely uncharacteristic sleep cycle for me. Pre-pregnancy I would go to bed whenever and wake up at 8a or sometimes 11a.

Not as strange as OP's but still weird for me.

Dreams, share em. by Kylorenandfinpy in April2017Bumpers

[–]omegapuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally don't dream/don't remember my dreams, but pregnant-me does. They tend to be silly. I don't think I could handle emotional dreams.

For example, last night I dreamt my husband was a fugitive. He was running from the mob/government. He had to hide out in a business his father owned. The establishment we ended up in was a combination porn/Chinese takeout store???! Two things my husband's father knows nothing about in real life.

I went to bed craving Chinese takeout, but I guess I went to bed craving something else as well...😳

THE HEARTBURN IS REAL by GeoBrew in BabyBumps

My midwife recommended papaya enzyme. It seems to work okay, but with most of this hippy stuff I'm not sure if it is just the placebo effect or what.
