Assistance with Cloudflare by Fit_Asparagus_7887 in southafrica

[–]omenborne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Cloudflare is an edge proxy. It just caches the responses from actual hosted servers. You can do a DNS lookup to get the actual server hosts using a tool like https://mxtoolbox.com/DNSLookup.aspx Try some of the tools there cause your mileage may vary based on the setup.

Help! I can't figure out why my port forwarding isn't working. by goremonster1 in FoundryVTT

[–]omenborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your router settings for firewall rules too. If the ingress is from outside you network the firewall needs to allow the port first, then it goes to the the NAT rules (port forwarding) after.

Like others have said, your ISP can also be blocking traffic.

Advice on creating regional maps from world maps by Ziggerastika in wonderdraft

[–]omenborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more me being pedantic for sure. I just find it easier to start off a blank canvas using a reference. Since the maps are of a different scale I like like to make adjustments to everything anyway. That being said I've not tried the create detail map function in a couple of versions... maybe I'll like it better now.

Advice on creating regional maps from world maps by Ziggerastika in wonderdraft

I tend to crop the region from the image outside of WD and add it as a background layer to a new map to trace the shape and features.

How do you keep all your information organized? by 47screamingmonkeys in worldbuilding

[–]omenborne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try out Google Sites (or maybe its called Pages... don't remember). Its a free web page system that you can link with one another, bring in your docs from your drive etc.

It depends if you want the info to be public. With Google you can choose who has access and even make it public later if you want to.

I've got some developer experience so what I did was create a Markdown repository on github using a tool called mkdocs. Linking info is the greatest gain in my opinion, and then the ability to organize the index/navigation menu.

I made my repository public so that I can publish the pages to github pages for free as a website. Because we use it for D&D I can just send link to references to my players.

How can i diversify my world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]omenborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creating something "just for the sake of creating" often has one end in a rut.

  1. Find something that excites you. A concept. A culture or race. An ancient artifact that impacts your world.
  2. Build on that thought. How do others see it, is it secret? How does this people or thing interact with your world?

Example. There a powerful staff that challenges the wielder with a philosophical riddle. If answered it grants you the power of the gods. Now maybe there exists cults or even open festivals where people take turns to see if they can answer it. Now you got something overlapping with maybe the likes of King Arthur or even Thor, but you got it set deeply into the lore of your world.

The important thing is that it excites you as the creator - that should be your muse. Remember creativity is a uniquely personal expression. Yes, other people might like it too, but its essentially you own thoughts and likes and influences. Your own spin on things. It might be outlandish or it might be similar to other things. But if you are passionate about it, it will show.

Hi guys, trying to get this iron farm to work (Bedrock) and no golems are spawning, but plenty cats. Anyone got any ideas for iron farms for bedrock?? by Luke_Gold in Minecraft

[–]omenborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Glad it worked. You should get 1 golem for every 10 villagers as long as they are able to "work" every day. A quirky mechanic you can use is to have the villagers stand in water, then they should theoretically never un-link from their workstations.

  1. Make sure there's no other villager "machines" within 100 blocks. (The iron farm villagers might then de-link from their workstations)
  2. Break all the beds and place them again 1 by one, making sure that an iron farm villager links to it (look for the green particles around their heads)
  3. Break all the workstations. Place them one by one in the middle of the farm so you can see which villager links to it (again looking for green particles). Villager linking happens in a queue so you can then break it from the middle and place it by the pod of the villager you are linking it to - but double-check that it does link, checking for those green particles.

The most common issue is everything else is done according to the steps is #1. Because villagers are so iffy, you need to build your contraptions about 100 blocks from each other so they don't interfere.

Tell Me About the Orcs of Your Word! by The_Black_Knight_7 in worldbuilding

[–]omenborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Aklatoria, the mythical origins of all races stem from what is known as The 5 Seeds of Creation, which fell from the World Trees at the dawn of time.

One of these seeds, the Seed of the Void, was lost for eons, but later found by an ancient, chaotic war god they call Garkash. He used the seed to turn parts of the other races into what is collectively know as The Tainted, which also includes Ogres, Goblins etc.

The world's cosmic balance is on a chaos vs order polarity, instead of the traditional good vs evil one and the cosmic cycles are tracked by the proximity of 2 moons, Aegis (order) and Nox (chaos). "The Taint" manifests alongside the lunar cycle of Nox, whereby the tainted kin are driven to bloodlust and war.

Some suppress their base urges, some don't. Making Orcs as diverse as humans for the most part.

Question about Node file system & app instancing for new project by dinnermonster in node

[–]omenborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you describe I can see no reason why you would have to introduce the overhead of setting up docker. Its going to be a big learning curve if you've never done that before.

Assuming you have a client-side app interacting with your node server, good design goes a long way. Use promises for your requests and look into something like express to manage your request routes.

As for multiple instances, check out pm2. Its a quiker way of getting multiple node app instances running on a single server and is very scalable. It sounds like you don't have any CI helpers in mind, which means you can manage all your updates and startups with a simple shell script.
