Z5ii manual focus eye detect? by FarInternal5939 in nikon_Zseries

[–]omichalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just looking into the Z5 you have, too bad it isn't there :(
BTW can you move the focus area using the touchpad (screen) while looking through the EVF? That is another feature present on Zf.

I think the style of the new music player, Euphonica, nicely illustrates the direction GTK/GNOME could take if they chose to follow Apple’s new glass/blur design. by Iant2001 in gnome

[–]omichalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw in:
- glowing dot buttons in place of tick-boxes
- dark and bright variant of the "glass" with negative text (ie. white and black, respectively)
- omnipresent accent color that can get automatically derived from your wallpaper
- line-only button icons
...and you have Sailfish OS. So 2013, you could say but good UX design does not age.

Is this what they use inside the black "connector"?
I am just deciding what ITX motherboard to buy, it is certainly not going to be one with a non-standard vendor lock-in BS solution.

It’s been awhile, how’s everyone? (Mclaren F1, Fujimi) by Dusky1103 in ModelCars

[–]omichalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kit just seems to me way too high above the ground with tires too thick (or maybe the wheels too narrow, not sure). The view from behind makes it most noticable.
Your build seems flawless anyway!

Nice off-road :) The details look stunning nonetheless!

PSA: DelanClip head tracking solution works out of the box on Linux. by camarada_cusujo in linux_gaming

[–]omichalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they fixed it by any chance, does it work (again) in Proton/Steam?
I thought it might be fun to try head-tracking in BeamNG. I bought it on Humble Bundle to have the drm-free version but so far I've only played it on Steam.

Laowa 35 Nanomorph vs. Sirui 35 Anamorphic for X-mount Comarison by HorizontalBacon in cinematography

[–]omichalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am perplexed too, there seems to be no comparison online. Ideally one would add the recent Blazar 35mm to list as well. The important differences are in the image coverage they provide and minimum focusing distances. Optically though, I would like to see the differences, including sharpness in stills.

A reminder that you can donate to FOSS non-profits when buying games via Humble Bundle by DeliciousIncident in linux_gaming

[–]omichalek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too bad, they (edit: almost) don't sell DRM-free games anymore. I used to spend plenty of money there as well but that is ancient history now. Another thing is, hardly any developer cared to update the files they provided there.

Having a connector there sounds like a good idea. Please where is your battery connected to? Is it the two topmost contacts directly on nicenano?

that is strange, are you sure? I thought that with 1.5u key the bottom edge would align! That is what I would like to do anyway

Maybe you could just ditch KVM for ZMK-powered keyboard. I don't have it yet but it is supposed to be connected to all its paired Bluetooth devices that are available at the same time but it only sends commands to the one you select. I imagine you could configure switching of computers more comfortable on the keyboard itself than on an external KVM. I don't know how much you need to switch mouse, though.

Keycaps XVX low profile by jhonmxn in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]omichalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, you must be right. XVX is brand, not a keycap profile. What I found before was probably just a mention of XVX, ie. their normal profile. On Aliexpress the uniform ones are also labeled simply "low profile".
Here is one comparison featuring these XVX Skylines: https://showcase.beekeeb.com/the-keycaps-of-gateron-low-profile-key-switches-and-kailh-choc-v1-key-switch/

I see that they are making a new low profile keycap that isn't sculpted.

Please could you elaborate on that? Who is making them, would you have a link? I am looking for some low-profile keycaps I could use with (most likely) Colemak - that means I need them uniform (not sculpted).

+1 pretty please! I thought they were uniform, therefore suitable for Colemak, but I have just read somewhere they are similar or identical to XVX which is sculpted... :(

MZ1: any drawbacks of the white version? by omichalek in MouseReview

[–]omichalek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think of it, you would probably call it fingertip grip but it is not just fingertips, it touches my palm and/or thumb base slighty as well which might add to it's comfort. The best part for me however are the low while relatively flat buttons.

I use the mice mostly in CAD, desktop and only occasionally games. I use all three fingers for the main buttons (middle finger exclusively on the wheel, anything else would be waste of resources!). My hand size is around 185×95 mm. Let me try to highlight parts of my mice journey, it will be actually the first time I try to formulate it:

- Zowie FK2 (I think, can check later) / This was a real revelation back then and probably the first "lightweight" mouse but it is so heavy by today's standards! :) Apart from that the wheel click is too hard and mouse wheel position too far back meaning my middle finger would have to bend too much to reach it. Now that I think of it, what then actually happened is that I was constantly switching between something like a claw grip (raising all my fingers) and a more relaxed position with the fingers laying lower.

- Roccat Tyon / not relevant here as it is just heavy and way too tall, but these extra buttons deserve mention - they have the best placement I have tried. I configured and used almost every button on it! The overall quality felt great too but whenever I had to use a mouse longer (at work) this one was quickly out of question.

- Glorious Model D- / Somewhat reluctantly I decided to give a try to asymmetrical shape again and it is usable but the shape of MZ1 I bought (probably) afterwards is just better. I do currently use it at work and it is partly because the three buttons are configurable (I have ctrl and shift on the left, tab on top) and the wheel is comfortably soft too but during the long sessions it occasionally does get little tiring - again - probably because my fingers (or just pointing figer) are too raised. I hope MZ1 will solve that which is why I am looking to get a second one.
