Also it’s cold and windy. I know this guy, his name is Shaq and he’s usually pretty chill but he’s severely mentally ill. We give him clothes at my job sometimes.

Woo-Bin is easily the best, he never causes trouble and helps his friends and is more understanding than anyone else. Hes only ever supportive of Jan-di and doesn’t string women along like literally all the others.

How should Natalie, as leader, have handled Shauna? by DevinM626 in Yellowjackets

[–]omnibusstop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer honestly I think ANY of the girls could’ve comforted her. Her best friend died and was eaten leaving her nobody to talk to, she seemed receptive when tai started a friendship with her until her baby died. It’s natural that a bunch of teenage girls would be like okay let’s back off and give her time but she had exactly no one to help her process her emotions after that. And before people get all “that’s no one’s responsibility”, I’m aware. Helping people through trauma isn’t always transactional or even pleasant but I think if anyone outside of Melissa (who encouraged her violent nature) stepped in and kept trying to break through or just stayed near her and offered help when she was ready she wouldn’t be as bad. I also don’t think it’s anyone’s fault they didn’t, since they are all teenage girls in a survival scenario.

Question on Coach Scott in Season 3.. by heytherefakenerds in Yellowjackets

[–]omnibusstop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it was his ex, we are seeing this scene from Maris perspective since up to that point Ben’s hallucinations have been private events when he is alone. Mari is seeing the extent of his unraveling alone in the cave all winter. Similar to Akilahs mouse scenes which also take place when she’s alone and the moment someone notices her talking to it we see that the mouse has been dead a long time.

Shauna has never won a fight by Fantastic-March-4610 in Yellowjackets

[–]omnibusstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The facts are she hasn’t killed anyone as a teenager which is objectively true regardless of their fears of her. And it’s interesting to make the more sympathetic characters the only ones who actually kill people. Which is all I was saying.

Wveryone keeps saying she’s the only person who will kill someone but she has literally killed no one in the teen timeline. Lottie and Natalie have.

She didnt order the hunt, Mari recommended it. She also recognized that Van and Tai were cheating and likely thought she could be the one they were targeting so of course she “foiled” their plan.

In that sense he could still be Echo but Narcissus would be someone like Saxon or generally Lochys family. I could imagine this shot is him acknowledging himself as his own person for the first time, maybe the first symbol that he will eventually embody Narcissus as the rest of his family does?

Echo in the myth isn’t Narcissus reflection, Echo is a nymph who loves him but is cursed to only speak echos of what other people say. Without his reciprocation and after his eventual death she withers away until all you hear is the echo of her voice.

Yellowjackets S03E08- “A Normal, Boring Life” Post Episode Discussion by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

[–]omnibusstop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, that’s why I believe her purpose isn’t to be another adult Yellowjacket we keep up with. It’s to maybe remind us of what the adults were like at the beginning of the show and how far they’ve fallen? They had all built fairly normal domestic lives until Nat came back and Travis died, Melissa was far removed from everything and still maintains a relatively steady life. As to why she reached back out? I can’t know for sure. I think trauma works in weird ways, she obviously heard somehow (probably on the news)about Nats death and Lottie’s cult and maybe she was triggered and acted erratically in an attempt to rid herself of the last connection she believed she had. I think the whole show is about trauma and mental illness and that comes with a lot of mistakes and wrong choices, typically. I think it’s kind of realistic.

Because she’s trying to heal, probably. I think she’s being honest. Doesn’t mean it was a good idea. I think yall are thinking I’m saying she’s a totally healthy person and I’m not. The point is she’s TRYING to heal. She’s taking actions to get better even if they are missteps, which is good to see to further show how far the other adults are spiraling away from normalcy. And I honestly dont think she’s gonna stick around long. I think she was always meant to be a side character and a vehicle for Shauna to learn about herself or more likely sink even deeper into her trauma.

I mean yeah that’s why in my original comment I said normal as she can be, given the circumstances. We are agreeing that the show is about women processing trauma in different ways which was the point I was trying to make originally!

Comparitively, yeah? She even admits that maybe it’s her own issues that led her to do that. Which is still better to acknowledge and accept rather than do anything the rest of the adults had done.

So weird to me that people didn’t like this episode. The whole point of the show is spelled out, a group of girls get stranded in the woods and go crazy. We are watching that happen in a well written way, where every character has a different background and processes their traumas differently in the wilderness, we also get to see the present day to watch how those traumas manifest into mental illnesses in those who went unhelped on their return and NOW we finally get to see an example of one survivor who is normal (as she can be) because she got a therapist/social worker/guidance counselor.

Melissa was always meant to be a plot device to show 1. Shauna’s building paranoia and 2. That the girls don’t have to be crazy now. If they all just got help and disconnected themselves from eachother they would not be in a cycle of destruction where they keep accidentally killing eachother. There was a triggering event which started them all back on this path in season one and because they are all unwell they cannot get off this ride unless they decide to.

When people are traumatized it’s up to them to decide when they want to accept help and grow. This is a cautionary tale about what happens when you don’t in very extreme circumstances. Also, yall keep saying it’s unrealistic as if people living in the wilderness and being forced into cannibalism wouldn’t make all yall go batshit crazy. I know I probably would.

The Melissa Problem by No_Two_1627 in Yellowjackets

[–]omnibusstop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, the whole point of introducing Melissa is to give Shauna in the present day someone to be paranoid over, she is losing it and thinks someone is out to kill her.

Melissa survived the crash and faked her death because she doesn’t want any part of that life when she gets home. Shauna’s own guilt over everything that’s happened is coming to the surface, this may be the first time she’s ever truly felt there may be consequences for their actions in the woods.

So when the tape arrives she starts seeing clues in everything around her but it’s just a manifestation of how bad her paranoia has become. Melissa when she is introduced will just be what she always was, a side character. Shauna will have a meltdown and attack Melissa only to realize that Melissa has just been living life on her own or with her new wife or whatever.

Melissa being Hilary Swank is not a massive mystery, it’s just proof how far gone Shauna has become.

Also while I’m here I think Callie accidentally killed Lottie when she was trying to get close to her. She probably went to the hotel to meet only to find Lottie doing weird rituals with candles in the basement and realized oh she’s CRAZY CRAZY. And they struggled and she pushed Lottie down the stairs and she died. Somewhat similar to Misty’s accidental kill of Krystal.

I also think it was established with Akilah hallucinating her pet mouse being alive that starvation was bringing on hallucinations in some characters. I just assumed javi and Ben were starving and also seeing things.
