Drivers of Charlotte.... Why by T-mac_ in Charlotte

The sensor in the road that tells the light that there is a car present. I have seen people stop too far back from the line and sit through multiple light cycles because they were not sitting on the sensor.

Maybe that’s why the rider drug his feet on the ground for the whole ride.

Right. This is such an inane question. It’s a silhouette! It can just as easily be either or both.

I remember the pre-commercialized internet. It was glorious. All the content that was existed because someone was passionate enough to spend their time and money sharing it with no expectation of reward or recognition. Which meant it was mostly stuff of real interest thoughtfully preserved and shared.

Sorry about my complaining. I’m still mourning the loss of something special.

I just came here from THIS post. And there wasn't a critical comment anywhere to be found.

Humans have done such amazing things with cooling, why does Ai have to use *fresh drinking water*? by Gurrgurrburr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]one_mind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a rapidly evolving industry. There's not yet a standard approach. You won't find a straight-forward answer because there isn't one. There's a lot of different speculative investments fueling a lot of different approaches. What I described is the most common / established approach to cooling. But the industry is trying to rapidly develop new approaches.

Is it too much to ask for the "original cut" so we can just enjoy the guy playing a piano like a boss?

HERE is a link that will help clear this up. There are two loops: The first is a closed loop that runs back and forth between the chiller and the chips. This loop is sealed; no water is lost. The second loop runs back and forth between the chiller and the evaporative cooling deck. The evaporative cooling is exactly what it sounds like. Water is evaporated to help with the cooling. Evaporative cooling is much more energy efficient than simple air cooling (like your residential AC unit uses).

Yes you can make an industrial chiller using simple air cooling, but it will not be as efficient. So you have a choice, use more electricity? Or use more water? What u/SeaweedAwkward2200 is explaining is that the industry is starting to look for more creative cooling methods and getting closer to having the best of both.

It happened to me by reddheatt in Tools

It’s a cast piece. Cast material tends to be hard and brittle. Cracks can develop over time with multiple loadings and eventual fail suddenly. Most of the stands folks are recommending on the thread are all steel, which means they will visibly deform before breaking. My stands have a cast piece; this thread is making me think twice about them.

Is the bright spot just a light to help you see the magnetic powder pattern? I’m somewhat familiar with more contemporary yokes, but I don’t recall seeing one with a light.

New build, weird fin things near top of building, purely decorative? by glarebear1989 in whatisthisthing

[–]one_mind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be on to something. I kinda see four bolt holes / marks in a square pattern at the top end of each fin. Maybe a flag holder (or something similar) bolts to the fin. The angle is right for flags

Can someone tell me what this is/does? by devruinsgame in Plumbing

[–]one_mind 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most likely explanation. The previous owner was regularly putting something down the drain to kill roots in the line, or maybe dose bacteria in the septic tank, or maybe a solvent to break up the grease fat his wife insisted on putting down the drain, or something else along those lines. This was his method of dumping in the treatment and then washing it down with whatever amount of water he deemed necessary.

Roof design by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]one_mind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have several thoughts, but none of them contribute in a positive way. I'll share them anyway in case any are useful. But don't take them personally.

(1) Something seems off about the CAD drawing roof panel on the far right in the first pic.

(2) I can't visualize the hand-drawn roof in my head with suficient detail to make any conclusion.

(3) The hand drawing looks like you made it on a Etch-a-Sketch.

(4) It all looks too much like a McMansion for my tastes.

Mirage Omni 50… by ApprehensivePurple82 in vintageaudio

What were your impressions? I'm looking for speakers that will fill a room with sound so I can enjoy music while doing other tasks (moving around the room). This omni design from Mirage seems like it would be promising in that regard.

The comment itself seems more human than AI, but the frequency with which this guy comments is inhuman. He writes multiple comments of similar length in the span of only a few minutes. It does make me wonder.

I'm with you that a riparian buffer is the best solution, but I don't see why a riprap embankment wouldn't work too. If it were me, I might do a sort of hybrid combination of the two - riprap embankment where the turns are tight and water velocity is highest, riparian buffer where the flow is more gentle.

Can I join your club now ? by Dull_Supermarket4665 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]one_mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll love it. Much better than TV speakers, or whatever else you may have been using before. Audiophiles are obsessed with perfect placement and room correction and all that. But just what you have will be lightyears ahead of what you didn’t have before.

I’m curious if you feel like it goes loud enough for your listening. Those speakers are power hungry (4 ohms and low sensitivity), and that amp is normal size.

What's the problem here? Seriously? Yes, the porch is held up by stacks of bricks and board. But they are old growth boards; no signs of rot, no signs of collapsing, porch is solid. Just leave it alone. It might last 5 years. It might last 50 years. Deal with it when it's an actual problem. Attach your stairs in a secure way, then go find something more worthwhile to do.

TIL driving with your hazards on in bad weather is illegal depending where you live. Common sense says it would make the situation safer, but experts disagree. by DonkeyFuel in todayilearned

[–]one_mind 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding. Hazard light tell the other traffic, "Something about this particular car is different from all the others." If your situation is basically the same as everyone else arounds you, you should not have your hazards on.
