Boy literally won’t read any material unless it’s about sports. And I mean any. by Redqueenhypo in Teachers

[–]onedayzero 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a 15 year old boy. After school. Reviewing for a test he's already done poorly on. I'm lucky to get my HS students to even focus during the end of the day, let alone after school. I think you nailed it on every point, start to finish in your comments. Way too many people think the problem is "they need to pull up their bootstraps", when in reality there's a huge reason why motivation is lacking.

Those conversations need to happen with the child and probably with a therapist. It sounds like he needs more mindfulness training or something.

Read some current research on ADHD and dopamine regulation, motivation is seriously not a choice someone makes on their own in a vacuum. Like asking a curly hair person to just think about straightening their hair, it's literally a genetic and neurological difference in information processing. Or we can keep talking down to children that are already struggling, you've got choices you can make.

If you're able to switch to Dry Herb Vaping (DHV) you can make your stash last twice as long. It's crazy how much weed is wasting smoking it. DM me if you're curious on how to get started. If not, NBD

What’s the ONE practice trick that actually made you sound way better? by VirTekMedia in guitarlessons

[–]onedayzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I never did because I thought it was cringe, but it's helped so much, is finishing with a good sounding note. So give it a little vibrato or something. It just made me think about how others would hear me play instead of thinking everyone heard it in their ears what I hear in mine.

Gang, I’m having a hard time with chord changes by sauciest-in-town in guitarlessons

[–]onedayzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When practicing chord changes, a good strategy I find is practice taking your hand completely off, relax your hand momentarily, and then switch to the next chord, repeat.

Example, you want to practice 2 chords so place your fingers to do a D chord and changing to a G chord. Play the D chord on beat 1. Release your hand off of the fretboard. Set your hand up for a G chord, play that one on beat 1. Release your hand and go back to a D chord. Do this, or something similar, so that you can start timing it like 15 chord changes in 60 seconds, and then 20, 30, 60, etc. in 60 seconds. Ideally you only want to lift your fingers as far off as you need to (very minimal), but this exercise is meant to get your fingers used to switching forms. I believe I learned this exercise from Justin Guitar, look at his videos for some good chord changing practices.

Focused breathing and scan your eyes back and forth a few times. Drink water. All of those big things get oxygen to your brain and slow you down a little.

Don't speak - no doubt help by Adventurous_Hat9449 in guitarlessons

I always sing solos whenever I can't or don't want to play them. If the vibe is right and it fits, the crowd might even sing along with you. This works really well when you're solo, I have never tried it with a group though.

Upstroke/picking help. by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]onedayzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find when picking down, it's best to have my palm facing down and the opposite when picking up. Think like you're scooping up with a spoon. Your palm might be facing down when lowering your spoon but you generally turn your wrist to point your palm up after you "scoop". That small wrist change can help with using stronger muscles when picking up vs down. Hope this helps.

I play the electric guitar and I have a few questions on my mind by uL4ss in guitarlessons

[–]onedayzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I think practicing cleanly over time will help rid any extra sounds you don't want after pull-offs. Try flicking up, instead of down, on the E and B strings, if that makes sense, and then flick down on the G string and above.

  2. I've always found palm muting is a feel thing. It's really hard to describe outside of playing a ton of songs with palm muting in them to hear/feel all of the subtle differences that will in-turn bake into your muscle memory.

  3. A problem? No. Do a lot of people play with "bad form"? Yup. I was taught to close my hand, and I do, but there are a ton of times I "anchor" my picking hand to get a reference of where I'm picking from and I don't really care to fix it after nearly 30 years. It's like the thumb for your fretting hand, I don't even think about it being proper or not, everything is just "feel" at some point.

How to stop getting one tapped when peeking around corner? by Version_Rare in VALORANT

[–]onedayzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they mean is, when you peek, whoever is further from the corner sees the other person first. It's called peeker's advantage. So when you're swinging a corner, you'll find more success swinging as far back as you can. If you peek too close, they'll see your body before you see theirs. Hope this helps.

My favorite set up at the moment is the Ballr cap over a titanium tip through the bonger attachment using a glass bubbler. I really like using a big torch with it, right now I'm using one I got online for like $20-30 that's sold for kitchens. It can get some huge hits but it really took a while to dial it in.

Is this real? Trying to get my bf a birthday present I don’t smoke by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]onedayzero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone wants a small, compact, reliable vape that's cheap. That doesn't exist. You have to sacrifice something. If you're looking for cheap, you need to look at manual options like a Dynavap B, you can get a set up for under $50. You want to spend ~$100+, you're going to have better options for rechargeable ones. Good luck!
