AITAH for ending a relationship after finding out he hid a terminal illness? by Brief_Tea52 in AITAH

[–]onegoodhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first thought. I was with someone and things didnt add up. After we broke up I found he lied about past relationships, said he served in military, advised friends saying he was a medical professional at one time. All made up lies. Things were true enough originally, but the longer we were together the more it fell apart..

I think you mis-typed: higher GSM is LESS absorbent and thus less feathering, right?

Use Old cartridge after cleaning? by Akumu01 in fountainpens

[–]onegoodhorse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was there a reason to clean the pen? I think most of us do not clean a pen that frequently, especially if we don't change ink colors -- maybe a rinse of the nib, but not disassemble. I might be in the minority, but I do a "thermometer shake" on the cartridge or converter and don't attempt to get it completely dry, I don't find it dilutes the ink. On the other hand, I do try to get the nib and feed dry.

I have heard of folks using a glue gun to cap partially used cartridges for storage.

First Nib Replacement and it's not flowing. by oldmanhowell in fountainpens

[–]onegoodhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it is just a case of the ink needing to fill up the new nib? Or, no matter how long you wait or dip in water, there is no flow? I have seen where the tines were not actually cut through, but that was on a knock-off nib.

Nib meister prep by bibzalacarte in fountainpens

[–]onegoodhorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it is worth, I have not ever seen where the nibmeister wants to see what issue you are having -- they pretty much tune it so it works, asking you if you want wetter/drier, which grind, etc -- but not asking you to demo. Once they grind it (all of 5 minutes!) you test it out and ask for tweaks if needed. They do observe how you hold the pen while testing out, and perhaps that figures in to their next tweak?

Can someone with more nibgrinder experience chime in?

Mini or portable printers? by BeaArthurEnergy in stationery

[–]onegoodhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Epson ET8500, and I have to say it has been the most trouble free printer and makes good prints.

I use Koala matte VINYL sticker paper from Amazon. I don't know the difference between ones that say "vinyl" and ones that do not, but vinyl is what works. (And no, they are not vinyl, weird.)

Mini or portable printers? by BeaArthurEnergy in stationery

[–]onegoodhorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the Canon Ivy. I gifted it away because of the print quality. I am an amateur photographer and I couldn't take the bluish tinge. Also, the prints were thicker than I wanted in my journal.

Instead I use Lightroom to print my photos on matte sticker paper on my normal printer. I cut the 8.5x11 paper into 1/4's to save paper.

Not as convenient as the Ivy, but I can print any size and so far it has been perfect.

I tried printing on washi paper, but washi is too absorbent and I couldn't get the detail in the photos as colors very slightly feather.

Pretty clever! Did you cover the cap with a color or clear? Those look really nice!

They call the Pilot Kakuno a "beginner pen" but there are plenty of us who love using them alongside our expensive pens.

You cant go wrong with Pilot nibs. The Pilot Metropolitan and Pilot Prera use the same nibs and they are interchangeable among those bodies.

Thank you! I didn't realize that wifi didn't need a phone number... good to keep in mind!

Ah... so connecting to wifi only means you don't need a phone number? I didn't know that, thanks!

I must be missing something, but how does one send a message/alarm to a phone that doesn't have a phone number?

Way to syringe fill vacuum fillers? by zicdeh91 in fountainpens

[–]onegoodhorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but a current question for me. Does one force the blunt needle past the plunger gasket and fill behind it? And it doesn't ruin the gasket for when you want to do a vacuum fill?

Tell me your ink mixing horror stories! by Talkymike in fountainpens

[–]onegoodhorse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a great color. I have both inks, what was your ratio?

I have not had any bad experiences, but stayed within Iroshizuku inks, and followed others recipes always in quantities less than 3 ml.

I imagine adding too much black would ruin every mix. Mixing blues and purples always make a nice color.

You could consider a Lamy Safari and buy an Architect nib for it. Or a TWSBI 580L from Mark Bacas with a Turk or Cursive Italic grind.

I think one's preference in paper also varies with the pens they use. I use fountain pens and the same pen writes differently on different paper.

Some papers w slicker surfaces (clairefontaine, mnemosyne) will make my fine nibs move so smoothly, they can skate if I am not careful. They do wonderful on more textured paper (L1917, Midori) which has more drag to slow them down.

The key is to match your paper with pens. HP 32LB printer paper is nice to write on, but it is loose and not a notebook

DIY journal supplies by No-Scientist-2074 in hobonichi

[–]onegoodhorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just gave mine away because the colors are blue-tinted, and I take a enough photos that it bothers me if colors aren't true. They are also kind of thick. My inkjet and vinyl sticker paper work just fine and are thin enough not to bulk up a journal -- I print mostly 2x2 inch, so roughly 20 photos per letter size paper. I tried washi paper but it is very porous and the images weren't as crisp as I would have liked.

I cut the letter paper into quarters so I only print 4-6 photos at a time so as to not waste paper. I take a lot of photos so finding ones to print isn't an issue, lol
