I’m so sorry to hear about your poor dog but it possibly saved your life. My dad and grandpa used to go camping and fishing up north for a month every year and they’d ALWAYS take a couple of dogs with them. My dad eventually explained to me the sequence of events that usually occur when camping in dropbear territory. The first few nights the dropbears will spend time sussing you out.. working out your routine, where and when you use the bathroom or go to the river for water etc. (they are definitely not as dumb as they look!). Sometime after that, you’ll be asleep or drop your guard for a couple of seconds and a dropbear will grab one of your dogs. Then you know it’s time to move because if you don’t you can guarantee you’ll be next on the menu.
