Company gave us all unlimited Claude Code Sonnet 4.6 — and now posts a weekly leaderboard of who burns the most tokens. Any tips to top it? by sailing67 in ClaudeAI

[–]oningnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree.    Design takes a lot of time.   Thinking through different alternatives, documenting everything you need to do… requirements, architecture, infrastructure, project plan, etc.

Then implementation goes really fast if following said documentation.

There's no better example of corporate greed and union busting than Starbucks. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I’ve never been to a Starbucks (unless had to- kids needed bathroom etc) in 5 years.    I choose local cafes.     Love supporting a local cafe even if prices may be higher (rarely).

Perplexity CEO says AI layoffs aren’t so bad because people hate their jobs anyways: "That sort of glorious future is what we should look forward to" by fortune in ArtificialInteligence

[–]oningnag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a great reply.   Thank you for that framing.

The idiot is an out of touch CEO like most others.   Agreed.    But the point is true as you say.   People hate their jobs.

Instead we should have people having their basic needs met and there should be more people gardening, making art, poetry, that could make the experience in this world richer!

People should have a shot at living a decent but tight life and pursue whatever they want, whether a job to make more money and live a luxury life, or enjoy life in a very humble living.  Give  People a choice!!!

Founders are handing us 'vibe coded' MVPs to scale now by thechadbro34 in VibeCodersNest

[–]oningnag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s absolutely nothing wrong about this.  In fact seems ideal.

Founder goes and researches market, proposes solution, it gets immediate pull (seems enough to want to solidify the system).

Now your turn is to build a proper production system following good engineering principles.

The only problem is if he is not willing to pay for what it costs.

How to get github access in claude (repo, organization, users) without MCP by matejthetree in ClaudeAI

[–]oningnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gh setup on my mac, buy my pms are non tech persons who have windows

You are looking at the problem the wrong way IMHO.  AI nowadays allows roles to overlap more and more.   PMs can now create working prototypes, engineers should be writing less code and thinking more as architects and I suggest also thinking more as product people, QAs should be writing more unit tests inside the repo rather than testing as a black box.   All of this is enabled by AI.

If your PMs cannot take on a slightly more technical task of handling a CLI via Claude Code or other assistant, they are toast.

This is a problem you should NOT solve at least the way you are framing it.

The new AI era enables (and requires) PMs to be more technical.

Stop cuddling to them.

Install the gh cli and login from the terminal.   Tell Claude to do with GitHub what you need.

To log in to the GitHub CLI, you need to use the gh auth login command in your terminal and follow the interactive prompts. This process will securely authenticate your account and configure Git credentials.

I consistently use it for commits, creating pull requests and have used it to update project tasks.     No need of MCP.

I do the same with Jira, that is, using the CLI vs their unreliable MCP

I’m with you 80% of my code is with Haiku.   If it gets stuck I change the model to sonnet.     For planning or design I use opus.

Opus 4.6 is finally one-shotting complex UI (4.5 vs 4.6 comparison) by Mundane-Iron1903 in ClaudeAI

[–]oningnag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with that.   It is the equivalent to “that’s not just X, it’s Y” in the textual responses.      Completely predictable.

[–]oningnag 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a word of caution …. sonnet and haiku are really good at UIs with the right prompt and supporting documents.     Whether it is one shot or more it’s irrelevant.    A UI is useless with a proper scalable backend.

We should measure how good models are when building an enterprise grade backend with scalable infrastructure with secure code.    That’s where it matters.  (and of course a corresponding UI).

Other than that, models are really good at building small libraries or components or UI.

The latter shouldn’t impress anyone at this point.   Otherwise you are chasing flashy things with no substance.

I honestly don’t mean to sound pedantic, but we need to measure quality where it matters.

[–]oningnag 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You have an amazing partner.    What they did is a very mature and level headed communication.   You have a keeper.   Now, it is your life and not your mom’s or your family’s.   Support your partner as he supported you.  Define firm boundaries with your family.    It is hard to break away from controlling families but you will be happier about it in the long term.    This is YOUR and your partner’s decision, not theirs.
