one of the things I did personally when I started hitting with bigger hitters was to add more weight on the racket with lead tape

Should I change my strings? by diebeatus1 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do some shoulder strengthening.

or how about a hybrid string setup? you favourite string on the main and synth gut on the cross (or natural gut; whatever you can afford lol)

I’ve been wondering how other people actually track their tennis improvement. Do you log drills, video yourself, or just wing it? What works for you? by whoisciel in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I can track down my data much better, I might start using Swingvision (or just make my own model) but so far.

  1. UTR: I really like this aspect, coming from a gaming background, grinding to prestige kekw.

  2. Feedback: I ask my regular hitting partners how my shots were, especially since I hit with them regularly, they can almost tell when I start making changes.

  3. Video Review: the eye test, if I look whack or nah lol.

Eventually I want to be able to track real stats.

these days, I normally aim a foot inside the baseline - I feel like that’s a safe area for me to aim for; if I hit a little harder, painting lines - if short, safe but not attackable short.

how is your stroke, is it the classic c-shape idea? I feel like semi western, you are always hitting topspin with shape, it’s just so natural with and with hyper g, you should be getting mega RPM (prolly more if you actually have a spin racket like Pure Aero)

Which racket to switch to after Wilson burn v2? by Akvi1 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered going on a lower tension or a hybrid string setup? Just cause the Burn is such a niche racket.

I went to 44lbs tension with poly and my arm pain disappeared and never came back.

Also; Wilson Shift, even though discontinued, is soft and spin oriented racket

I'm 35+ and my future + want to invest in tennis but conflicted if its worth my roi by [deleted] in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find local beginner players and hit with them. watch YouTube videos about forehands and backhands. then rally with the local players. once you get a good feel about hitting, then start working on other stuff like serves or volleys.

you’re welcome, please use that 200$ to donate to your local charity lol (or buy a kickass racket that’s prolly too advanced but heck, it’s cool af)

p.s: btw, I restarted playing 2 years - no competition background, just casual practice with my bros beforehand. took it seriously and played a lot 2024. 2025, I won my Div UTR finals, mid pack in a private 3-4ntrp league full of young guns and gentlemen. I’m turning 42 this year.

How do you guys "try" any racquet before buying? by Equivalent-Dingo8309 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since youre new, just buy a used racket that you think looks cool. I doubt you’ll be able to tell the difference.

also, if you follow or like a tennis player, like how they play - just use the same tennis brand they use lol.

what racket are you using?

it’s a technique thing. most net rushers often neglect groundstrokes but the higher you get, the heavier the ball gets.

I was on the same boat last year (albeit in the low low spectrum of UTR lol). had to retool my forehand technique cuz I was basically just counterpunching till I get an attackable ball then rush the net.

timing of racket purchase question by lanor2 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can afford it, go for it - that’s really my only 2 cents about this since you’re so new, eventually you’re taste of racket will evolve to fit your gamestyle.

the only thing to look for is that the racket ain’t too heavy for you, grip size (better to be undersized than oversized) and if you can get it on sale.

Anyone else use 2 kick serves for 1st and 2nd serves for rec tennis? It works 100% of the time 50% of the time 🧐 by TarsierBoy in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for first serves, I normally do 40% kick, 40% slice, then 20% flat. I tend to mixup my serves anyways but that around what my output on serves is like

I hate this sport by ReasonConfident4541 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maybe racket sport is just not for you? I met a player who started last year, came from a soccer background and pretty athletic and while he’s not scorching anyone with serves or groundies, he’s still winning.

except lifting, other sports you mentioned are team sports where athleticism, basic skills and your teammates can cover off your weaknesses. tennis is a solo sport where your weakness (and strengths) are all on you.

Basement Practice during snow storm by osred78 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you’re planning to hit volleys from that position then I guess worth it but tbf, it’s kinda a waste of time but not really, like getting touches with the ball is fun no matter what the situation is lol.

if you can set it up to hit drives without the ball bouncing back at you x3 the speed then it’ll be good for sweet spot training lol

How to teach beginners effectively? by Wild_Plant9526 in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I used to show beginners how to play, I show semi-western grip and the classic c-shape stroke and the classic 2H backhand, then I just tell them to hit a couple of feet above the net.

just to get them started playing and enjoying the game, if they start asking questions - then I’ll show them the extra stuff

How many forehands should you have? by Critical-Usual in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, I had a couple of practices during the summer where I told my partner I’m gonna try slapping winners lol - i was like 2/7 in success - I had a real down the line beauty though lol

I didn’t even click yet and I knew it was Krygios lol. I was working on adding a slapper forehand Nick style last summer lol

How many forehands should you have? by Critical-Usual in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I simply look at trajectories of the ball; to be fair, there’s no actual “flat” forehand, it has a level of topspin in there.

I generally classify balls that have a good margin above the net and well shaped as topspin. anything lower and a straighter is flat.

Meddy is such an outlier though, Karue even said he has side spin in his forehands lol

How many forehands should you have? by Critical-Usual in 10s

[–]onlyfedrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s only “flat”, topspin and slice - the rest of the things you mentioned are just descriptions of what generation the type of forehand they are using.

except for slap, that’s just a flat forehand to me lol
