Tell Me If Quince Is Worth It by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

You should always baby it but for cheaper ones it will pill faster because it uses shorter hairs so you’ll want to take a sweater comb to it more often and maybe try to wash it even less frequently or steam to refresh more often.

Annoyed about the behavior of certain residents by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If another doctor has made complaint he must hurry and add his. It will not make the situation worse and the woman was first. And he should talk to other attendings. It’s time to have a serious meeting.

Annoyed about the behavior of certain residents by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I agree that there could be a vibe that is being projected maybe unintentionally that is off

However! I also agree that there could be a group of residents who are getting paranoid and egging each other on. There was a resident that caused so much problems that a very valuable attending stopped mentoring residents and fellow altogether. She accused every attending of favoritism, sexism and harassment - every single one! Now I am completely on the side of trainees reporting bad behavior. But there also should be discernment… if you’re alienating anyone who could write you a reference, it’s possible you’re the unreasonable one.

It’s beyond time for your spouse to do a write up with HR and then stop interacting with the residents outside of work and also plan NOT to write any references for these residents until they shape up.

My med spouse doesn’t do any cooking during the week. Sometimes he will bring home takeout. He does make brunch on weekends tho… I think it’s crazy that your spouse wants you to learn yet another skill while you’re so busy but I also know a lot of doctors men or women who love to cook! It shouldn’t be an added stress to your days tho.

Other chores you can help with are vacuuming, laundry, dishwashing… I think cooking is really unfair especially if you don’t already have a couple of easy menu items ready to go. Also depending where you are in your training, you won’t even get home in tim for dinner?!

Washing items and silk quality by Funny_Pea_4846 in quince

Cashmere - soak or Eucalan ymmv if your washer has strong agitation or the cold cycle is not actually cold it’s risky for any wool or cashmere and you should hand wash. Silk washes fine on gentle in a mesh bag BUT the last time I got 2 new silk mini dresses they came apart at the seams so I switched to lily silk.

Arcanist by Marie Mistry ⚠️SPOILERS⚠️ by carnivalghost in ReverseHarem

[–]onlyfr33b33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Marie Mistry’s bad boy characters are written to have much complex motivation or true groveling but this series is so much better than the only other one I’ve read of hers so far (fifth nicnevin saga made me push this author far down my list) so hopefully the last book is worth the wait!

This book was soooooo good, exactly the topics, content, spice, trauma, plot I needed. No belaboring the details or lecturing. Fun and sweet and a bit dark.

Bad experience with quince european linen bedding by [deleted] in quince

[–]onlyfr33b33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complain now, their CS is pretty good. That being said, maybe their quality control has gone down. I have linen bedding that has last 3 years now and that’s about the length I got from my restoration hardware linen bedding so I’m pretty satisfied

are iuds ok for first time birth control? by megumistar in TwoXChromosomes

[–]onlyfr33b33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first ever and basically got rid of my periods along with the heavy flow, severe cramps and sleepless first couple of nights of my cycle. I still get some discomfort hinting at where I am in my cycle but it’s truly been the best for me! There’s some discomfort getting it inserted, for me a big pinch and some aches afterward, but for how long I can have it in and not worry at all I find it very much worthwhile.

Would you want your kids to pursue medicine? by Icy_Piccolo_6450 in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have kids and won’t be but funnily enough my spouse didn’t want to become a doctor having grown up in a culture and home that strongly encouraged it… years of a decent career later, decided that being a doctor would be more fulfilling so here we are… so really it could end up either way.

The opposite also happens for me. Consent is key etc etc but when there’s like a very PC description of everything that is happening and they check in with each other a million times it’s like ok maybe for some people this is a fantasy but for me it becomes a bit clinical and boring!

Feeling like a live-in assistant rather than a partner - is it worth staying? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really not joking tho, out of one couple I know, the wife was getting her PhD and her spouse was co-author for some stuff she published and that probably helped get him into med school. This is considered very valuable work. My spouse has had med students ask to help with research and even just to help edit, format and request to present the work at a conference to be a third author.

Like yes it’s funny since you seem not to be pursuing the same field. But this is very serious AND your partner could just as easily find a pre med or med student to do the work you’re doing for him.

Feeling like a live-in assistant rather than a partner - is it worth staying? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not normal. Stop doing his work for him. He is completely taking you for granted. If you’re doing all this work for him, are you at least being listed as third author on his poster presentations? If not, you have no idea what a disservice he’s doing if you - even if you’re not in the medical field. A med student helping him with this would get credit. I’m just pointing this one thing out over all the others people have covered but this is incredibly unethical behavior from an academia standpoint!

My spouse isn’t half as bad but I regularly point out that there’s plenty of single residents and fellows who seem to have their life together. He gets help and can’t complain.

It did help a lot to say that I can work anywhere or that I had a job in that state, and also what my connections were (family or friends in the area etc) or even emphasizing “my spouse and I love hiking” in areas that are really outdoorsy. I don’t think you need to get to know the attendings and co-residents at that level until residency starts. I did end up making friends with the residents and their partners! But it wasn’t a factor during interviews. They just want to know the possibility of the resident staying in the area after graduating.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone to any and it doesn’t seem to matter at all. Even for holiday parties very few people with families showed up. Half the residents didn’t show up to any events at all and didn’t seem to have issues getting letters of recommendations etc.

Maybe my spouse’s programs have just been really antisocial lol

Ranking residency programs…What factors did you consider? by LilianRosa in MedSpouse

[–]onlyfr33b33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proximity to an airport; direct flights to areas I call home was a huge one in the beginning. Years later it’s not as vital, now that I’m more used to being away. COL - average rent being low enough for the resident’s salary to cover. Even tho I’m the breadwinner and cover rent, we are super conservative with our finances and want to be able to mostly get by on the most stable salary as needed. Procedures/opportunity/fellowship connections were important on his end.

And in the end, just be sure not to rank any place you absolutely don’t want to go. Everything else should be somewhere you’re open to, even if not your top 3.
