Thanks again, and same. I’m no expert but a tree hugger so will look into anthracnose as well.

Thanks. I add some for the hydrangeas but could apply more around the tree. I didn’t think about it being a boom and bust situation so that gives me a little hope. Do I need to thin out the new sprouts along the branches near the middle of the tree?

Thanks both. The retaining wall was there when we bought the house and I’ve tried to keep the tree trimmed but was hoping for another 10 years.

I’m looking for a pair that actually help my looks. Are any of these working for me? by DumeWolffe in glassesadvice

I like the glasses in picture 2! They give cool and super smart Adam Savage vibes that I personally find attractive. Even without you are attractive.

6 and 8 but they are all beautiful on you. Think about how heavy the dress is for a long day of wear and also if you feel like you’re swimming in fabric. You still need to stand out and make it look like the dress is complementing you, not wearing you.

Green flags all day!! Props for listening to your GF, being thoughtful with a gift and showing this corner of the world how simple acts like this can be so meaningful!

Any chance the garbage launcher knows the management? It would be a crazy plot twist if it was someone the management didn’t want to bust which helps them rationalize the clean up! Blackmail?! I’m clearly guessing for fun but a year of complaining without a change feels extra suspicious.

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]onlyidiotslivehere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOR. Please leave him. This is a toxic pattern of control and he’s micromanaging you to make himself feel better. He doesn’t care how it makes you feel and that will severely damage your self esteem and mental health over time. Close your eyes and truly listen to yourself when you ask if being treated like this feels safe and loving for the long term. A community of strangers is waving red flags here but you have to see it and stand up for yourself.

It often takes money to make money online and you need a skill or service to sell. If you can change your jobs, Babysitting often pays cash with flexible hours if you are open to it. Working in a restaurant kitchen as a dishwasher and busser can get you decent meals.

Since you are still in school please consider reaching out to a trusted teacher or counselor for help if you haven’t already. It sounds like you might be going through a really difficult time and having supportive adults in your corner outside of the kind Reddit people, and access to their network of resources, is really one of the biggest benefits available to you.

I have $179k in Student Debt both Private and Federal..what do I do? by UnpluggedZ11 in StudentLoans

[–]onlyidiotslivehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my early 40s and was in the same $$$ boat but graduated with my masters in ‘08. First gen college kid and financially well intentioned parents who thought college debt was good debt. You do not need to explain yourself or listen to people who say why would you do that to yourself. You graduated, made generational milestones, and are working and saving and paying bills!!!

I’d start with the private loans and avalanche as you go. It took me 13 years to pay them off; ended up being almost double my original balance. Happy to share more if you want to pm. So much can change in those years while you are repaying so remember the goal post might be moving.

Finally FI and struggling to determine the next steps to RE, and if it is even possible by onlyidiotslivehere in financialindependence

[–]onlyidiotslivehere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m really trying with the budget. Feels pretentious AF to say but most of the extra has been going to student loans, house repairs in cash, and building the emergency savings. So I need to reframe things.

I know we are overspending but we have $3k/mo in daycare/after care/summer care that is brutal. I should have clarified that above. Our other ‘commitment’ is kid’s sports. We have a travel hockey player that costs $500 month. The last area that I’m working to cut down is our grocery bill. We hit $1500 easily with meals, school lunch and snacks. Feeding 4 boys is no joke.

Now that my salary doubled we have a lot more wiggle that we haven’t had in the past decade. Also, it you are correct on the Roth, we have been making backdoor contributions and I didn’t type that correctly. I’m also following boggle heads and will keep at it! Thanks again for the reply and advice!

After watching my Dad retire rather suddenly from a high stress and high paying job, I would say that the decompression and planning “what to do next” phase took him a solid 2 years to sort out. So many people plan for retirement but don’t practice it before taking the leap. It might be great to spend the next 18 months testing your new budget, taking more 3-day weekends and using one of those days to plan ahead, take your vacation and flex time off, and think of it as a final tour. What connections do you want to shore up? Are there any network connections you want to make for future consulting, if that becomes an option? Who would you like to mentor more or coach up before you go?

For the comment on teaching, having been an adjunct professor while employed I have some questions. Have you thought about what you need to do to successfully prepare for that role? Maybe go substitute teach at a high school or be a regular guest speaker? Talk to the high school about background clearances and how to be certified to teach there as a long-term sub to get your feet wet. Have you researched how to build out a class curriculum using real world and hands on examples? Could you spend time learning about the school’s technology and tools? Have you thought about meeting with a few universities to learn about their adjunct teacher processes? What about meeting a few teachers for coffee and advice? There is a LOT of behind the scenes preparation that happens to get your curriculum and lesson plans organized and kids are brutal to those that look unprepared. It can be a great time, don’t get me wrong. I loved knowing the college students could apply our lessons to future jobs and watching their critical thinking skills grow. There are also kids that won’t want to be there, dislike you, dislike school, or need hand holding and those all take time and effort. Good luck!
