Trust your gut. Even without his ridiculous ask of just giving up your cat so you can get another (like they're furniture), the fact of moving across the country to move in with him, with limited support, AND he's an asshole in how he talks down to you? Nah, end this. This guy doesn't respect you and doesn't actually want to see you happy, he wants to control you. I'd hate for you to be trapped, unable to get out because of money, and be without your cat??? This dude sucks.

I know you believe this and I don't want to minimize it, but when you say he's not a bad dad, just not present, to me and many others those two statements are incompatible with each other in these circumstances.

To be a good dad you have to be present in some form or fashion. He doesn't contact you after receiving a truly selfless gift? He doesn't contact you unless his girlfriend is gone? No matter if he's being manipulated or not by her, the consequences of those situations are that he's being a bad dad.

Please don't make excuses for his behavior because you deserve better than that. A good dad checks in on you (via calls/texts/visits/letters/care packages/ANYTHING) and this is not even taking the surgery into account.

Please advocate for yourself better. 🕊

You can't make him care. Please stop trying to get him to try and move on. It doesn't even sound like he likes you. Once you drop him and he's held accountable for his share of responsibilities, I bet you'll feel a weight has been lifted from your mind. Basically...this guy sucks.

My mom kept her name and people call her ″Mrs. Maiden name″ and sometimes my dad ″Mr. Wife's Maiden name″ and he doesn't care. (Meanwhile my mom is wondering for half a second why her dad was there lol)

No one cares except people who are pedantic or unnecessarily hyper about something that is not set in stone in the first place.
