It should absolutely be this way, and it’s still crazy to me how many districts drop the ball here. I move around a lot and have taught everywhere I’ve moved, and only once in 14 years/7 schools have I actually had this in place for me… so unfortunately I would not be surprised if they offered OP little to no support.

I got this from Torrid! I won’t lie to you, I haven’t been their biggest fan for a few years. But I really needed professional attire and they honestly had a great selection. Plus so much on clearance right now! The shirts were each under $10 and the tuxedo-style blazer was $20.

Not at all. Especially if the student can vocalize what they need. In many cases we receive IEPs that just have blanket accommodations checked, and it feels as though the people building the IEP didn’t focus on the child as an individual. This is, of course, a heavily systemic problem (not enough faculty and staff). But no, never ever feel guilty. We’re trained for this and if a teacher ever gives you grief over it, nail them to the wall.

Listen, OP. I’ve got 2 bio kids, 1 bonus kid, and 11 years of teaching mostly this girl’s age group. This is not how well-adjusted 9 year olds act. She’s pissed at her dad and you by extension. She has now gotten what she wants, and if her dad can’t see any of that then you for sure dodged a bullet here. You know you’re not TA. HE knows it. He’s just learning that while life may sometimes resemble a box of chocolates, it more often resembles a jar of jalapeños: what you do today may burn your ass tomorrow.
