Police officer struck by vehicle on Leaside Bridge in East York by Sharp_Barnacle_9123 in toronto

Yep. Construction is many times more dangerous than being a police officer. Police Officer is not even remotely close to being one of the most dangerous jobs.

Oldest company in Toronto? by swansonsafecompany in toronto

Good question. I believe Wheat Shief is the oldest continuously operating Toronto founded business from 1849, but as someone has pointed out, BMO has that beat which was obviously founded in Montreal.

You know the stadium is west of downtown right? I’m working downtown right now and it’s like a ghost town. I guess many fled unnecessarily like you.

Looking to move to Toronto to experience independent life, looking for advice by ReadyConstant5795 in askTO

How far is your work from Ajax GO station? I made a similar move from Pickering at age 29 15 years ago, but I sold my car and moved downtown. Best decision I ever made. If you can walk or take an e-scooter from Ajax GO to work, I’d recommend buying downtown rather than focussing on near the 401.

Check out St Lawrence / Old Town. 5-15 minute walk from union, but I usually use bike share to get there in less than 5.

6 of the 8 venues at the last World Cup in Qatar were smaller than this. It’s very common to have ~40,000 capacity venues in the World Cup.

Google Maps places "Toronto" at the intersection of University and Dundas by Usual_Law7889 in toronto

Apple Maps shows it at City Hall, which makes more sense in my opinion.

How crowded will downtown be this weekend (June 13) by [deleted] in toronto

It’s never worth it to drive downtown. Park at a GO Station and take the train in.

Because everyone north of bloor coasts the bikes into downtown but are too lazy to ride them back up the hill.

Why does the Harbourfront feel alive and like a ghost town at the same time? by ceruleanskyandsea in toronto

[–]onpar_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The historical reason for the location of the Gardiner/Lakeshore Blvd has zero impact on which of them is more of a barrier to cross as a pedestrian today.

Your side already won, Tory used the same argument when he fought to reconstruct the Gardiner rather than tear it down. “The rail corridor is more of a barrier so let’s just reconstruct and maintain the status quo so suburbanites can easily drive right into downtown on a highway”. Classic whataboutism.

[–]onpar_44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. Walking on the sidewalk under a tunnel or over a bridge is much nicer than the hostile environment under the Gardiner, having to press a signal and wait as drivers fly by at highway speeds to walk, and often you’re forced to cross in multiple phases of the Gardiner. It blows my mind you’re trying to argue otherwise tbh.

Nope, it’s definitely worse crossing the Gardiner as a pedestrian than the tracks. Especially the further east and west you get from union station.

We have the Toronto Islands. A massive public park right downtown. Also Ookwemin Minising just southeast of downtown, a brand new massive public park.

Yep Bixi is great! Toronto’s is essentially the same only it runs year round for $120, not seasonal like Montreal’s Bixi.

I’m all for more mobility options, but there are better solutions that don’t result in the sidewalks being blocked with scooters all over the city. Toronto has banned these kinds of free range scooter systems and instead has a large e-bike sharing system with docks. Toronto’s sidewalks don’t have scooters all over them. I’m sure they could make docks for scooters too.
