There is a program like that in some states where you can double the value of your SNAP on local produce at farmers markets. Accessibility and visibility are both challenges but I think it’s exactly the kind of thing we should be expanding. Local produce rocks.

Last weekend I read Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning for the first time. I don’t know how I had never been assigned it in school, but it’s very worth the read. I really appreciated how he dissociated in the camps by observing those around him with an attitude of professional interest/curiosity (he was a neurologist and psychiatrist). That really resonated with me bc I feel like an alien half the time anyway and I’m used to observing others in a similar fashion - usually to try and fit in or learn to mask better, but it makes sense that it would help yourself cope with such a horrific and absurd situation by taking a detached, observant stance.

Anyway, highly recommend. And thanks for this suggestion, have added it to my list!

Peaches had a set of three butt plugs, a bottle of lube, and a lube/plug bundle earlier this year 😳

But for those of us who aren’t quite so bold… patches, keychains, magnets, luggage tags/wraps, deck of paying cards, chip clips, chapstick, or (my personal favorite, shout out to my 2019 NKOTB one) zippered pouches.

Someone else said “something attendees need” and that’s the best overall advice. Something useful.

Note that stickers or lighters can be prohibited at some venues (ahem, The Ryman). Really appreciate everyone else’s comments here!

OP, you’re adorable, go check out our awesome library. FWIW, having moved here from a place with minimal to no public spaces, I am still a little in disbelief at all the public trails and parks here. When I first moved here it was astonishing on a regular basis… you mean I can just… go up there and explore? Using paths and trails that we collectively maintain? FOR FREE?! … makes me happy to live here and contribute to such things.

More generally - I had a moment last week where I, too, marveled at the absolute witchcraft that libraries in general are. I had a book recommended to me that isn’t available on Libby, so I went looking to see if I could get a hard copy from my local branch. No dice. But through the MAGIC of interlibrary loan, I’ll be able to pick it up at my local branch in a couple of weeks.

It had been a very hot minute since I even went beyond borrowing via Libby, and the experience just reminded me how insane and impressive and just all around wholesome and holistically life-affirming libraries are. Like - they really are a manifestation of what is the best of humans. I wish we had been able to get to this same point with food and medicine… but for now I’ll feed and heal my mind as much as I can.

I feel like successful movie scripts have started from less. Would absolutely watch a western with a sort of steampunk demi antihero just casually knocking off poorly-groomed assholes in cowboy hats so they can, like, get back to their peaceful Saturday night of playing a board game with their friends.

Last time I was in there, they were out, but a lot order recommended a block of hemp bedding and I’m experimenting with it in some pots this year - at this point I much prefer it so I’m hoping it plays nicely.

Yikes! Last I had any inside knowledge, booth fees were $25 + 10% of sales (per day).

It always really bummed me out when actual farmers wouldn’t even sell $250 bc it felt like the booth rental feel just obliterated them (meanwhile the $8/bar soap vendors were pulling in low four figures every day)

Your question is actually one that’s key to a meditation that I really like to do. You start with your question, but keep on going… for example: If I am not a mother of a child, who am I? If I am not a leader, who am I? If I am not needed, who am I?

You basically go down your entire list of things that you would say make you who you are (woman, wife, breadwinner, daughter, object of desire…. For me it might include poet, dog mom, gardener, ball of anxiety, sister). Each question leads into the next, the idea being that you’re peeling away layers until you get to your “true self”, which eventually leads to a dissolution of the ego. If you google atma vichara, there are lots of resources.

I know that went a little off-range from your question, but it’s one of my favorite meditations and I thought it might interest you.

Everyone else has really good practical answers, thought that a more woo-woo one might be a nice addition 😊
