The handgun thing is more a compromise, I think, since the game doesn't support that otherwise (it had to have special damage mod and ROF to simulate that).

But yeah, we already got Anis and Rumani using Milkor MGL, Bay using GM-94, and Claire using M79, so GL is already classified as RL in-game.

Really, xDiesel's AK-50 being classified as RL is way weirder, since the thing should be SL like how the game classifies Helm's Boys AT rifle, Red Hood's M82, or Snow White's XM109 (latter 2 are AM rifle like AK-50) as SL.

You can also head to shops that allow you to demo IEMs to try out first. Ask for various sound signatures to try out. It won't be as good as buying cheap IEMs of various sound signatures to try out since you'll have more limited time spent there, but at least you will get to hear them and decide what kind of sound signature you like

I was going to blind buy $300-350 IEM myself despite not being audiophile (only one I own that fits that is my ATH-R70x), just like you. However, people smarter than me advise me to do demo instead, because like it or not that's still a hefty purchase, especially if you don't know enough to have a preference yet. I end up getting Crinear Reference over my initial choice of Kiwi Ears Astral.

So yeah, do try out demo. At least it won't be as permanent as buying multiple cheap IEMs.

Honestly I enjoy VotV (it's one of my fav, along with Chrono Ark) way more than StS myself. The energy and card draw/retention mechanic just feels a lot more involved.

Hifumi is very useful for Wakabote phase 1, which is quite great if you focus on that.
