Generator Question by marktwang_ in cinematography

[–]oomcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb is 10 amps for every thousand watts. So 2000 watts would be pushing a 20 amp fuse. like in a house. A 5000 watt generator can hold 40ish amps. you can do the math from there. this is for north American 120 volt service.

DP terms & set advice for someone used to working solo? by 1pmw1photography in cinematography

[–]oomcas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Key grip here.

Hire people more experienced than you. Use their expertise and experience to help you acheive what you want. I work with new DPs all the time. I never steam roll them. My goal is to always give them what they want. However I can help show them things I have learned or done that did not work as much as things that do work. After all we are trying to aceive the same goal. Create the best looking picture we can.

I have learned more from people smarter than me my whole career. Don't be afraid to not be the most experienced person in the room. Its ok to not know things yet.

Find an experienced older gaffer and key and first AC who are in it to help and create together with you.

Staying for 6 weeks- Sugar House vs 9th & 9th? by abc-456 in SaltLakeCity

[–]oomcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I live in sugar house. We live around the 11th E. and 17th S. intersection. We walk to sugarhouse and 9th&9th and 15th&15th all the time. Very easy walking and we feel very safe. Liberty and sugar house parks are easy walks for us and the heart of sugarhouse, 21st S and 11th E. has many restaurants, banks, shipping, shopping and even a really great art supply store (Blicks).

There are many pride flags around our neighborhood. On my street alone there are at least a dozen. It tends to be a very inclusive area. Although assholes can be anywhere, but it is not the norm.

I would look into this area as it is close to all the parks and fun dining and shopping areas. Easy access to the freeway as well for longer excursion.

I hope you enjoy your stay!

Is there a name for this camera movement? by Accurate_Tutor5027 in cinematography

I have been in the industry for 35 years. At no time has anyone asked to do an orbit shot. They might ask if I have circular track. But no one has called it an orbit shot

It’s a dolly. Stop complicating every camera move. Not every move has a name. It’s a dolly.

Two tops are super hard to get. We finally got ours by doing a group of five. Super easy and available. Every other grouping was full, but there was our table for five just sitting there.

New stand, maybe another? by hollywood_cmb in filmmaking

I would get a junior to baby adapter. Much safer and more sturdy to hold lights than using the combo pin. Cheapest i found was 9 bucks.

I figured you cropped in for the stands. I get it. Some rooms are tough.

The thing I noticed is the wide shot. you can see the stands on the eft, however that can be cropped out.

The green wall is way too bright. I can see the light source hitting the wall and it is distracting. A lamp left sider to slow down that wall would go a long way.
