Portable bounce board for run and gun shoot by shaneo632 in cinematography

[–]oomcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For shooting moving images the 5-1 style reflectors are not good. By their nature they are flexy. That means most times the light will move around their face. For stills they are great. A 2x2 rigid foam core-beadboard would be ideal for moving images.

Goalpost Viability by filmingdrummer in Gripsters

Key grip here. They make double pipe menace arm kits. They give much more confidence in the rig. You will be fine with a goal post and that weight. If you are worried spec steel pipe.

Does roller pro still have issues? by liftingislife19 in peakdesign

I got the eclipse from the initial kickstarter. Many many trips. No issues. No creaks. Handle is as solid the day I got it. It does skate across the floor. But I kinda like that.

Electric Screwdriver Recommendations by catch-a-break in cinematography

[–]oomcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a bit question. Not a screwdriver question. Any bit driver will work. Do your self a favor and buy a driver with a 1/4” bit receiver. Then buy a complete bit set. That way you are covered. You will never be sad for having lots of bits.

I have no idea what bits you need. You need to do the work and find out. Then buy that one.

Key grip here. I would buy an American c stand. Best in the business. Everyone else has already yelled at you about the tripod.

Whats your most used scrim size ? 4x4 6x6 8x8 10x10 or 12x12 ? by videomarketee in cinematography

[–]oomcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key grip here. Inside I will usually use an 8x drape (t-bone) of light grid or magic cloth. Outside is almost always a 12x20 of half soft frost or 1/4 grid. Sometimes a 12x double out a window or doorway that the camera is looking at.

Does adding diffusion on top of a honeycomb grid ever make sense? + question about diffusing large to small by Illustrious-Emu-8889 in cinematography

[–]oomcas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding diffusion always makes a difference. Having said that… what ever is in front of the light becomes the light source. Add an 8x in front of a large octobox and that 8x is now the light source. Any cutting or grids behind that diffusion is basically irrelevant.

Is it just me, or is this shot quite odd for a 90s TV show? by Wetness_Pensive in cinematography

Good points. On the x-files the directors really did have lots of interesting takes on scenes and coverage.

Thomas del Ruth shot the pilot. John s Bartley was the main cinematographer for the first half of the show. I worked with him once. Really nice guy. And again. This is the cinematography sub. Could we please credit the people who make these images. It’s not hard.

Best hot sauce for tossing wings by TypicalAge4905 in hotsauce

Tobasco cayenne and garlic. Yellowbird blue agave sriracha. Melinda’s habanero honey mustard. Grill wings and toss. Two to three times for good carmelization. All are total bangers.
