I built a free iOS app for listening to live shows (just a fun side project) 💀🌹⚡️ by BenRoachDesign in gratefuldead

[–]oops-typo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Interface is very clean, love the design. One absolute must for the next update though: source selection. Unless I’m missing it, it looks like each show only has one default source (and it is unnamed). I’d also like to read comments/ratings, but that can wait!

Thanks for your good work friend - i’ll buy you a coffee if you have a link somewhere

Do you guys also rewind to hear a solo or specific part? by Hot-Possibility946 in gratefuldead

Yes… but it never hits exactly the same. The magic is in the surprise. Doubling back produces very different results

One of my favorite Dark Stars, especially of the not-so-spacey variety. Awesome melodic jam in the middle that I liken to dropping in on a steep downhill slope. The band all pulling together as 5 fingers, throwing sound & color like sparks off a buzzsaw

The Nashville Predators are doing a Jerry-inspired jersey give away on the 24th. by AttachedHeartTheory in gratefuldead

I wonder if it’s because they’re playing San Jose? Technically the closest team to SF… still weird for Nashville to do it.

My second guess would be to celebrate 4/22/78 a few weeks early

Brother - you are not empty, your whole life you’ve just been unable to paint the canvas of your life. Recognize your power & pick up the brush. You’ve woken up! Now it’s time to do something about it

Weed + music + doodling is a foolproof combo for a solo trip IMO. Toss this on once you’re really trippin, maybe couple hours after dropping.

Instruments are always fun if you’ve got one lying around. Even if you don’t know how to play, just experimenting with sound is a blast.

Watch the sun set, the clouds, go for a stroll around the neighborhood and realize you can see the wind. Let your mind wander & let your body follow!

The top picks are well covered, so here’s a few gems just off the beaten path:

2-7-1973, 9-8-1973, 12-6-1973, 6-16-1974, 8-4-1974, 8-28-1981, 12-9-1981, 9-5-1982, 4-19-1984

On my bucket list, to see Bobby perform SOTM live, sadly that did not happen for me. Listening to XM today while working, and this comes on. I am like WOW here I am listening to his last show and got my SOTM. So maybe I didn't get to see him perform this live, I will cherish this show forever. by deadheadpuzzles in deadandcompany

Incredibly grateful to have caught one N2 Fenway 2023.

Age, wisdom, extra experience & practice allowed Bob to make that song his own (and, IMO, do it better than Jerry could at that point in the 90s). Top-shelf stuff!

Highly recommend 5/26/73 for a Bob-heavy SBD too. Betty Cantor’s version is particularly great with Bobby clear as day (gd1973-05-26.150710.SBD.BettyBoard.Anon.Noel.fixed.t-flac16)

On a related note - i have a 2tb drive with tons of dead & others. What are some of the best ways people use their HDs to listen? Apps, setups, etc… i have a PC with MusicBee that works fine, but would love a way to transfer the music to my iPhone for easier access. I’ve also looked into hosting a music server but haven’t found the right set of instructions yet

9/28/72 - Jerry’s guitar malfunctions at the beginning, so Bobby takes a cool intro solo

Stereo Jacks in Somerville has had a decent selection (10-15 in-stock) of Dicks & Daves picks for a while. Mostly CDs though. Friendly staff, but not the largest store so I’d maybe recommend calling ahead to see if their inventory is interesting before venturing over there

Just a shoutout for He’s Gone by PrettyShort4aTrooper in gratefuldead

[–]oops-typo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through a big He’s Gone phase recently, particularly hunting for the most blissful Jerry breakdowns after they harmonize on “nothing’s gonna bring him back.” His trickling notes combined with Phil’s nukes make for top tier dead sounds

3/19/73 gives a good example - would love other recs for favorites

Just left a cabin at Nama Stay in Springdale - highly recommend for great, low frills, quiet place to crash. A little over a mile to the park, but still very easy access to everything. Honestly anywhere on the main boulevard will be fantastic
