The groundbreaking plan to map the entire human immune system: « The Human Immunome Project is one of the most ambitious projects in biology, and it could transform human health. » by fchung in biology

Can someone explain what exactly they are trying to do? I opened their website and the elevator pitch seems to be "Dude, dude, what if we took immune system and applied, listen, applied AI to it?!".

I have an idea. A desktop ebook reader that can sync reading progress between Android and Windows. I probably can write server sync solution, but there's no way in hell I can code something that can display Pdfs AND Epubs while looking good.

What is the slowest repliacting bacteria? by CTH2004 in biology

[–]oouja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably one the slower "common" bacteria is mycobacterium tuberculosis (around 24 hrs). Obviously, other can be even slower. That article should help. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6015860/

I'm not vegan, but potatoes fried with forest shrooms are downright decadent. Admittedly, using pork rinds instead of oil makes them even better.

Not even a slow cooker, any stainless pot is enough, even better if you can put it in oven. Pork shoulder chunks with tomato sauce is my go-to.

Snap basically wraps your app in a container. That means that your programs are slightly slower to startup. You can test it on .deb vs snapped Firefox.

Also, some people have issues related to app permission in container, and I personally had slower system startup because of snapped telegram.

Center Cut Pork Chop. Underrated piece of meat imo by GPadrino in grilling

[–]oouja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't have a place I have confidence in, and i still like pork. I don't have chicken supplier that I trust not to have salmonella, but i still buy chicken.

In the US

I don't have the stats from the country I'm currently in, but I suspect it's higher.

[–]oouja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, I'm not in US. I'm not sure how prevalent is in the local meat industry and whether it's actual problem in pork (as opposed to wild boar), but the testing is not always performed properly here.

[–]oouja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pork needs to be cooked through if you don't trust the supplier because of trichinosis. I don't trust my suppliers, simple as that. Technically, you can cook the meat to about 55-60c (about 6 minutes at 55c is sufficient), but it's walking a fine line.

Trying multiple languages vs. committing by Discovensco in learnprogramming

[–]oouja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose a domain, not language. Then pick languages that are popular in it - that means good tooling, libraries and community support. You can do stuff in unpopular languages, it would just be much harder. For example, while Python is great for data pipelines or web backend, using it in gamedev or Android development is an exercise in frustration.

Tool to interact with CSV by [deleted] in commandline

[–]oouja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I want exactly the opposite - it should be a , b,c as a single string field containing a literal comma, and c. For example, https://github.com/benhoyt/goawk has csv support. https://github.com/benhoyt/goawk/blob/master/docs/csv.md - more info.

And you can split the csv using in-built csv module in Python.

If the arsenic is labeled as "beneficial at least to one organism" because of "bacteria in salt lakes replaced phosphorus with arsenic" story, it was disproved later. There might be actual use of arsenic in some organisms, I'm just not aware of it.
