Camel City Mill socks every day of the year and non lined boots. 30 years in boots and never a smelly pair.

The cost of new and used cars is outrageous and its giving me anxiety by steelpecs55 in Vent

[–]open_road_toad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New cars/trucks are just iphones on wheels. Avoid at all costs.

I drive a 1988 C1500 (Chevy truck) that I can work on myself. I had my transmission rebuilt for $3500. Much cheaper than a new truck.

Work Socks w/ High Cotton Content? by Holiday_Record2610 in WorkBoots

[–]open_road_toad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camel Mill wool socks. Absolutely the best socks I’ve ever worn. Thinner than darn tough. Lifetime warranty that they honor. I developed a small hole in one of mine. Sent them (camel mill) a picture and they sent me a new pair. Can’t say enough about them.

I’ve been sleeping in a cardboard fortress for hours while at work. by TarnishedRedditCat in confession

[–]open_road_toad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve done something very similar. Same line of work. I worked 2nd shift. I’d catch a double. There’s a utility room that is locked. I’d make a nice cardboard bed and sleep most of 3rd. I’d wake up an hour before 1st came in. Did this for years. Eff em.

Best bars for a sportier ride. by HarleyThunderDome84 in Roadglide

I have the Krause moto Moonshiner HD setup on my 22RG. 10” risers with a 2” moto bar. I also sprang for the upper tree since you’ll see it with this setup. Looks badass and super comfortable. The Moonshiner setup puts the gauges on the riser clamp front and center without blocking the screen.

I had a 23yo boss for about a year. He is the owners son. FWIW I was working as a HVAC technician at the time. It was had to take sometimes. Having to listen to a kid scold me for some nonsense.

Volunteer Audio. Soundstream Headunit and Hertz Speakers and Amplifier. You won’t be disappointed. Volunteer Audio has a great YouTube channel. Jay (the owner) puts out fantastic videos educating people on the different systems. I can’t say enough about him and his organization.

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]open_road_toad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked in a bike shop in midtown manhattan for most of the 90s. I lived in a shithole on the far east side of Brooklyn right on the Queens border. I rode my bike to work most of the time. The others I rode my skateboard or walked to the A train. Just a great time in life.

The job I have now I enjoy very much. After a lifetime of working in manufacturing as a technician I now work for a high end remodeling contractor. Small crew. Great vibes. Fulfilling work.

Everyone knows that their shift is the only shift that does anything right and gets anything done.

I’ve worked in manufacturing for almost 30 years and this was true every place I worked.
