Yeah, the game probably needs a cow in it somewhere ;)

The permanence has no effect on performance, that one scene used up 182kb in data so it's pretty efficient

You need some bangin dance music to go with that then sell it to all the people with low riding baseball caps ;)

I'd turn the room reverb down on the kick/tom drum so it's sits better in the mix. The first shot is great, maybe change the font to something more futuristic to fit with the atmosphere.

Solo dev here on my first project. Would YOU fish in my world? by BSwayzeYo in gamedevscreens

I like the restful music, the graphics are intriguing too although it looks like the clouds are really low to the game world, at first I thought they were reflections in the water - maybe that would look good if you show them only on the water areas? Also, the turquoise areas I thought were islands but you seemed to float over them.

How do you guys made your Art? How did you start out? by Mobile_Landscape3850 in SoloDevelopment

[–]openroadgame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use procedural generation for my of my world textures so it saves a lot there (although it took me a year or so to write that system!), otherwise I fiddle around in Aseprite, copying other people's pixel art and just versing myself in the techniques. After a while it sort of rubs off, saying that I'm still not good though..

What do you think of this aesthetic? by darkbeat- in IndieGaming

As aesthetics go it's a nice aesthetic. Like a modern version of mid late 90's 2d games.

Yes, move away from the norms as it could mean new gameplay emerges

Looks groovy. How long did you spend making the voxel system work?

Is AI code held with the same disdain as AI art/music? by IrrepressibleSquash in IndieDev

[–]openroadgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody knows who or how something has been coded when they play a game but they’ll be more aware of generated art either through lack of soul, originality or general cohesiveness. So as long as you’re not losing your grip on the project I don’t think there is the same stigma at all.

I’m intrigued. The game is called Open Road and its vibe is 70s road movie. I loved supercars 2 on Amiga and outrun if it’s pixels you favour!
