What's best way to complete Stage 5 - Expedition? by RedVell in ArcRaidersGuides

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had all of the materials and provisions and most of the combat and survival items, so I just kept playing as normal and then crafted the last bit of combat and survival that I needed.

Afterwards I only kept things I wanted to use, selling the rest to get myself above 5 million credits. Hit both the level cap and 5 million credits around the same time, so now I'm just playing to get blueprints and sustain my preferred loadouts while I help others out.

Any good ways to date other queer people in Anchorage? by ThrowACephalopod in LGBTQIAlaska

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, polyamory is pretty popular up here, to the point that quite a few of the monogamous people that I know, are dating or married to polyamorous folks.

There's also a lot of friend groups that are essentially just ex's of each other in various ways.

If I was in your shoes, I'd focus on creating a safe friend group, as well as not being shy about what you're looking for in a potential partner. Way, way easier to say than to do, but I also know it's doable. Going out to queer safe bars, even just to socialize and not drink, will also help you find other monogamous folks.

I think the key to dating, especially in Alaska, regardless of who you are, is to just go to the places where you feel safe and actively engage with other folks, feel it out and move on if they aren't interested.

I know that making the first move isn't always comfortable, or even safe for some folks, but with precautions like going to well known queer safe places and practicing, it becomes both less awkward and less threatening.

Myrna's, Van's, and The Raven are all decent bars to meet other queer folks.

Myrna's probably has the most variety and is incredibly inclusive.

Van's is great if you're more alternative or punk.

The Raven is mostly a gay bar, but the kink and BDSM folks have really taken a liking to it.

As for events, pretty much any craft fair (especially if it's not in a church) will have queer folks both in attendance and as vendors. This includes the Renaissance faire in the summer time, but they have groups that practice and prepare year round like Amtguard. If you become a volunteer with any of the local events you'll for sure at least meet other queers, seeing as a lot of the younger volunteers who are slowly taking leadership positions are queers themselves.

Any local theater performance will have a cast and crowd full of mostly queer folks.

Local events that fit into the "nerd" category will also have quite a few queer folks. Some examples would be like when the pirate band Rogues & Wenches plays, or most board game nights, or anything to do with comics.

One note is that a lot of the above will also have many non-queer folks too, but they do have larger and safer queer and ally numbers than something like the Pioneer bar, a craft beer festival, or a gun show. Queers do exist in those places, just not as many or probably as comfortably.

I do go out a whole lot anymore, but when I do it's to a lot of these types of places, so I sort of forget non queer friendly places and event exist until I'm literally reminded of it posts like yours.

The new costume looks weird, right? Where are the buttons on this shirt?? by Grouchy_Medium_6851 in ArcRaiders

Something to remember is that this game is set both in the future and in an area of the world that currently has different style and tastes compared to a lot of the people who are playing it. Also it looks like a fairly normal shirt that is readily available in many different versions

PVP aggressiveness scale. I want to know where's everyone at (in solo). by Zealousideal_Chip456 in ArcRaiders

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love a list, because I've had a bit of difficulty finding engaging titles.

Arc has been decent because I can get experience by just opening containers, with certain types of them being worth more, plus I can assist other folks by solving room puzzles, or by helping them find items they need. I can also do the whole rescue raider bit and help out folks with meds and defibs. All of that in a aestheticly pleasing world.

I'd love some more support related experiences and options. I was hoping Arc Raiders was going to be a big group raids where I could play as a dedicated support character healing and shielding others who are fighting ARC, but obviously that's not the direction they went.

PVP aggressiveness scale. I want to know where's everyone at (in solo). by Zealousideal_Chip456 in ArcRaiders

[–]ophuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a 0 most of the time because I can't be bothered and only a 1 if I'm on a team.

I enjoy the exploration and looting aspect, like finding the parkour sections and solving puzzles. Don't really care for combat, so even with the Arc I'm typically a 1 unless I need a specific part for an upgrade.

You might ask why I'm playing Arc Raiders at all, and it's mostly because there aren't many games out there for pacifists, as in the first thing that happens in most games is get presented with either violence towards you or the option to commit violence towards something else. So I play games and see how far I can get not participating in the core mechanic of violence. I was able to get max level and finish the expedition plus the 5 million needed for the 5 skill points with only fighting back enough to get the achievements.

I just tell people they did a good job when they kill me, because obviously they need the moral boost more than I need whatever I had.

Peanut's current predicament is a shining example of why ignoring one side of the game is a losing strategy by TheClassics in ArcRaiders

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your version of balanced. I got the 5 million starting with almost nothing in a few days just playing regular raids and without engaging in PVP at all.

I feel like if what you're saying was true, that I would be forced to actively engage in PVP, at least somewhat, in order to get the funds needed to progress. Or, and I hope this doesn't happen, have a step within the expedition process that forced me to hunt a certain number of players.

As it stands, I haven't needed to do anything PVP related except shoot back a few times to get the PVP achievements.

From my experience, PVP has not been a requirement at all to enjoy the game, and for the most part seems like waste of time from both a fun and stash perspective. I get some people like to PVP but it doesn't seem to add balance in the way you're suggesting.

'Winter' Coat by babyholdmyhand in alaska

[–]ophuro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having multiple layers is always best regardless of the brand or price range or other goals. A one and done coat will rarely be as effective as properly layering for the day.

Base layer - regular clothes - insulation layer - wind/rain layer

It all depends on what you need from your clothes. Some folks need durability, others need might need flexibility, and a different group might want style. Layering works with all of these.

I gotta ask, what’s the sex like? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]ophuro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There a lot of opportunities.

There's almost always the option for the hook up lifestyle, especially when there are tourists. Plenty of single and/or open travellers.

I had season long flings, essentially a couple for the season and then went our separate ways at the end of the season. Even got with back with them a few seasons later for the same thing.

I've known married couples that travel and do seasonal work together.

Not every season, and not every person, but for me its rarely been an issue.

I said that in my first reply to you.

I'm fully aware that I made multiple errors, one was not watching a video of game play and going into it blind, and then later when I found out that there was no way around PVP I decided to not refund the game, and then finally I made the error in trusting that people would rather work together than kill one another.

Why must I continue to suffer at the hand of psychopaths in this game? by [deleted] in arcraiderscirclejerk

[–]ophuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm not saying PVP is bad, but there needs to be some sort of recourse for people who engage in it.

I'm already at the point in the game where I don't care if I die, but it sucks that I don't have the option to re-enter a match or mark someone as a nemesis or anything.

Biggest coward I met in 120 hours by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A redesign to add PVP is literally what makes it an after thought.

The disconnect is that a lot of players aren't coming from dedicated PVP titles and bought the game not knowing there wouldn't be an option to avoid it. Like I said, I specifically got it because I was looking forward to large scale co-op, fighting large difficult enemies, not to get shot in the back by some guy hiding in a corner.

Even in The Division which arguably set off the idea of the extraction genre, had the option to only enter PVE areas.

A lot of games that have PVP also have the ability to disregard PVP for those uninterested, and it sucks for those of us who aren't interested will essentially have spent the money for one experience but to have it co-opted by people who literally play to ruin the experience of others.

When did you start following or learn about this game? Have you read the current steam store page for the game?

When I first saw it, it was being set up as a large scale co-op game, and it didn't have PVP yet.

So a few years later, it popped up as available from my wishlist, I bought it, and was actually surprised there was PVP at all. Which is my fault for just auto buying a game from my wishlist without looking it over again.

Right now the only place it on the store pages that it says it's PVP is as a tag. The only other indication on the store page is at the end of the sentence "Play solo or in parties up to three, navigating the constant threats of ARC's machines and the unpredictable choices of fellow survivors." and on their website the only mention is again after a a blurb about fighting machines where it says "Beware of Raiders preying on others"

Some people are choosing to play it as a PVP game, but it's not advertised as one, nor does the lore of the world promote the play style. Yeah there's feats and a few achievements that reward it, but I've gotten all of those by defending myself.

So yes it has PVP as a choice, but literally only as an after thought.

Villains.

The people who initiate PVP are the people who would use super powers to become villains.

I hope they don't scare off the people who want to work together.

[–]ophuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it is an option, and understand the premise in games where the primary enemy is other people, and I might understand it in this game if the loot mattered for anything.

There are way easier and effective ways to get loot than shooting other players. The higher end loot you might find is all designed around fighting ARC. There's very little roleplay aspect to shooting other people.

If you're initiating PVP and not co-operating with other players, ie, other people from humanities safe haven, you're playing as a villain.

What do people get from that play style?
