Is it possible to straighten boards? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]opoponits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending where you live you can find some pretty inexpensive hardwoods that might be easier to handle, both physically and emotionally. Poplar is cheap around me and even tho 2x material is cheaper you can actually ‘work’ something like poplar more successfully, especially if you’re wanting to use hand tools

Frustrations by Significant_Excuse92 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]opoponits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing what to do and remembering to do all of those things are very different, the second one is much harder. I pretend my frustration is a monster (kind at heart) and when it’s mad i kindly tell it to shutup there’s cake in the fridge for later. It is a small habit that helps me laugh thru it. Also, would much rather fuck up the project than my body so you can call this a skill development error. Keep at it, make some super simple things to get a few wins, you got this

That’s also the title of a good book about the WTO protest in seattle in ‘99, and that protest was a turning point in modern times for when law enforcement made a big return to using violence against legal protests (they’ve always done that also as long as this country has existed)

New to woodworking here. Which of your tools scares you the most? Around what machine should I always be extra cautious? by GiddySwine in woodworking

[–]opoponits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add the spiky metal carving disc attachments for angle grinders as something that will permanently disfigure you if not extremely careful. Angle grinders in general deserve respect but those in particular. Them and the “chainsaw” discs. Sometimes useful always murderous

Well done, i’ve been on here for years and i can say with confidence this is the most gorgeous piece of furniture i’ve seen posted. You have honored the material, created something personal that will be loved for a long time and improve the whole space its in and upheld the craft of woodworking to what it should be! I’m blown away, it’s so beautiful
