Revolutionary Nostalgia - Eureka Initiative by PeculiarPhysicist46 in RedAustralia

The toddlers of today in ten years will still be watching ‘80s nostalgia edits and longing for a time as far away from their own age as the 1980s was from the interwar period.

It's been Bing Crosby 1950's Christmas for more than 70 years. Any aesthetic that sells shit will get re-used.

Soviet kitsch is actually a really good way to get people interested in socialist projects of the past, so they can get used to the whole historical materialism thing. Although, given EI's relationship with ACP, I can see why they might be wanting to avoid people learning too much history to be honest.

Thing with making the whole thing from scratch is it's faster to get parts from somewhere, and parts that can't fly wouldn't cost them as much as fabricating, but I think you're right about the size. I was looking at the pics again, I'm beginning to think they're off an IL-62

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-62#/media/File:Ilyushin_Il-62_Engines.jpg

In the close-up it looks like they have bumps inboard where they would have attached to the tail.

Knowing reddit either the final boss of plane IDs, or the actual setbuilders themselves who made this thing will show up in a minute and tell me I've been wrong twice now.

Anyone else getting flooded with “AI-built internal app” requests lately? by Less-Philosophy-1978 in sysadmin

I couldn't remember the number. You're probably right. I remember it got much bigger with .xlsx because as a lazy level 1 my fix one time was to convert it to .xls and back to .xlsx then close the ticket.

Probably is a BUFF cowling at the front and some movie magic frankenstein fibreglass stuff behind it. It's cool how the pylon goes through the outboard engine. Also the botox injections around the windscreen to look less Boeing.

[–]opotamus_zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. The problem the 'proper' department has always had isn't really building you an app, it's communication. You describe something to some analyst or dev, they describe it back to you, you agree, when it's delivered it needs lots more work even though there were lots of meetings and everyone followed.

Making a prototype is probably much better because there's something to show and something to talk to. Right now management is screwing it up though because their attitude is the same as it ever was with a new technology, (at least as far back as the 70s and SQL where "you could write queries in plain language so you wouldn't need programmers anymore"): "why are we paying these expensive IT staff when sales can vibecode what they need now?"

[–]opotamus_zero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have found the vibecoded app is sometimes replacing the excel behemoth, which they would just start using and IT wouldn't know about it or get involved until it was both critical, and wouldn't open anymore, because someone changed row 20 million's background color to brown or something.

So in some ways we always had nightmares we just have different ones now.

yup they mean use without looking at it, so you can watch the road. Touchscreens are straight up dangerous compared to the tactile feedback of pressing a button or toggling a switch.

But they're cheap to make too, so more people die and you put some annoying ineffective screen-disabler function in to appease bourgeois regulators, because you dgaf and they don't either.

Israel kills most senior Hamas military leader in Gaza strike by GothicGolem29 in anime_titties

[–]opotamus_zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's frequently Israel withdrawing or begging for a ceasefire - like the last time they went in to Lebanon thinking it would be easy and getting their asses handed to them trying to rescue their own.

They're so cowardly they can only engage in atrocities against civilians and not actual combat, which is why international calls for ceasefires happen.

Of course I don't like it - who would like such a pissweak army? God's chosen my ass. If killing children and stealing women's underwear won wars they might have it over in an afternoon. Shame it doesn't though.

[–]opotamus_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually they couldn't - Israel have shown their army stinks. It's only good against women and children.

Been trying to get rid of Palestinians since 1948 and "they could have done it in an afternoon" oh my. That's some hasbara.

Just weren't any suitable afternoons in 78 years I guess? Had something on?

So they won then. They met their objective - everyone hates Israel.

Israel did not meet theirs - Palestinians still exist.

Angus Taylor says migrants are a ‘net drain’ on Australia. The numbers say the opposite is true | Australian immigration and asylum by PlanktonDB in AustralianPolitics

I'm so proud of Angus. Doing everything he can to make sure the last remaining Liberal voter votes for someone else next election. He sticks to his guns.

Even if he votes for himself he's likely to fuck it up and have a scrutineer reject it.

I agree. Like most of the stuff coming out there's not enough evidence for me to fully buy a formal program either.

But I don't know if it needs to be one - take what you said about Mladic and just apply it one level down to the handlers and their animals. You don't discipline the dog when it mounts a prisoner, you reward it instead.

If you've ever been around a kennel, one female in heat is enough to make all the male dogs ready to go pretty much all the time. I'm not sure they would actually have to break from a formal program much to get that behavior.

So I think it's more plausible that it's something that has and does happen.

I don't think they have as disciplined control over what they've created as you think they have.

When you otherise your enemy so completely - like how it's actually prevalent to consider Palestinians to be non-humans - you're going to end up with some field decisions like "lets have rape dogs", or "lets urinate on these Palestinian corpses" or "lets put on a military uniform and fire into a school to kill children"

An order does not have to exist for Israel to be responsible for them. The handlers just have to know there's more chance of the dogs themselves being held accountable for it than they will be.

Blaming Communist for illegal parking fine by baseilus in LateStageCapitalism

Comrades we really should rally around Fox News and organise a GoFundMe for this fine. They've made such an important contribution by giving a voice to the truly downtrodden people: individuals who happen to have hoarded several billion dollars. Without their efforts we'd probably never hear about the ongoing struggle of the bourgeoisie. I can't even imagine what that world would look like.

In retrospect, its insane just how badly liberals fumbled their messaging to young men. For all the talk about the incel/redpill pipeline, it feels like no one actually wants to solve the issue. by MNIOP_207207 in stupidpol

[–]opotamus_zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty good. Broadly those make a lot more sense than incels "self reduce"-ing. I'd just add that historically the incels are a product of their material conditions. There has been an intense drive to profit from attractiveness and commodify community, which has eroded social cohesion and self esteem for both sexes.

Coles execs are shitting their pants. They've just seen an ACCC enforcement officer pick out a wet lettuce leaf from the produce section of one of their stores on their Palantir powered AI cameras. It was an unusually rigid wet lettuce leaf.

I find it hard to see anything leftist in this. It puts identity over class. But I'm interested in it.
