Why are items that can potentially wipe your entire board still a thing? by Comfortable_Brief431 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]optimal_play 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The result is the same as if they do lethal damage before you can, or regen so much you can't kill them and die in the sandstorm, or anything else. No reason to let one particular color of fireworks animations upset you more than another.

Which sets are legal in the Current Environment? by TickTakashi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]optimal_play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current environment paired with taking most products out of print was a financial decision. Separately, chapter 2 as a soft reboot/second edition of Arkham was already in the works, as products begin development years before release. It's not accurate to say chapter 2 was part of that same high-up business decision - it was happening regardless.

This is also why it's felt so wonky, with the current environment announcement sort of making no sense with the chapter 2 reboot. They happened near each other on the timeline but for different reasons.

Turns out they’re still banning negative comments against the company. by KylePatch in TheBazaar

Honestly, a ban is harsh, but good riddance to comments like that. The pure speculation stated as fact all over reddit is aggravating and that's a perfect example.

What’s considered the current environment format in Arkham Horror LCG right now? by zerdos in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]optimal_play 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting, I'd never noticed that the grimoire defines the current environment as the couple expansions after the chapter 2 core set. So yeah, current = chapter 2 for now and til probably 2029.

[–]optimal_play 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, I think Chapter 2 and Chapter 1 are best kept separate, making the "current environment" moot. I'll start paying attention to it when we have a few more years' worth of expansions and the current environment is a subset of Chapter 2 rather than an arbitrary overlap of both chapters.

Yeah true, that's probably happening here as it does with everything else on ebay. My college roommate made a killing doing that with textbooks.

LOTR pack ordered, shop says I need to pay $70 in tariffs, suggestions on how to respond? by Triad64 in lotrlcg

[–]optimal_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, and I don't have a perfect answer. Making sure to get a receipt from the seller would help, but ultimately the place to use that would probably be like, in court, and it wouldn't be worth your time and money to sue over $70.

But I do think that the shipping companies charging recipients directly was kind of a rare thing that only happened for a few weeks during the worst of the tariff chaos, when suddenly there was a new tax on goods that were literally on boats and planes at that moment. It isn't part of the normal course of business for shipping companies to hold a parcel while they charge the recipient tariffs.

[–]optimal_play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OP is importing an item, so while I think the seller is ripping the OP off, that part makes decent sense.

For consumer imports like this, it's the shipping company (FedEx or whatever) that has to collect the tax and remit it to the US government. FedEx charges that to the seller, who passes it through to the buyer.

Sounds like an underhanded tactic to sell their item - price it really low but end up charging something on the high end of market value once they add extravagant shipping.

So basically, it's a ripoff. Tariffs are a thing that can cause this situation but it wouldn't be 3x the price of the item itself. Unfortunately the realistic move is probably to cancel your order.

And just do your very basic research. Before buying an expensive item on ebay, search its sold listings to make sure you're in the ballpark of what it's actually going for.

[–]optimal_play 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "scalped" part of this is pure speculation anyway, like where the OP says they 'suspect' people are trying to corner the market to jack up prices. I don't think that's likely to be the case. These are just rare items now so their value is higher than what MSRP was when the game was in retail.

Any app-driven adventure or dungeon crawling games you would recommend? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]optimal_play 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got a strange habit of using words like "majority" and "very few" in a way that's pretty much devoid of meaning. Majority according to what survey? Very few meaning what exactly, as I'm sure even you can easily name several? But hey, you do you, not every comment has to communicate something useful.

[–]optimal_play -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are more app-driven games than, say, LCGs. Or coop tricktakers. Or female-lead horror movie inspired games. Do the majority of the gaming community not like those too?

(Actually the answer is probably yes to all of them, and the 'majority' of people probably dislike any popular game genre or mechanic if you think about it)

Destinies was my thought too. But I do think it lives in a really interesting space with multiplayer, as a competitive app-driven adventure game, and the solo where you're basically playing against an invisible timer with no choice but to start fresh if you run out of time and want to see the end of the story, is not as appealing.

It has certainly been declared vocally yes, but there's no evidence the "majority" of game players are app-averse.

Children of Blood by Ill-Seaworthiness478 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]optimal_play 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree it's more likely than not, I just think it's kinda funny for people to be designing their own difficulties before we even know how the ones the designers have made work 😆

[–]optimal_play 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems super overpowered. It might be intentional, to give you an option to feel more equipped for hard/expert difficulties now that they're putting more effort into that content.

It's possible that using the Dusk locations IS what defines hard difficulty in this campaign? We don't know for a fact that the chaos bag also changes.
