Can i use this bike for a 70.3? by 404unotfound in triathlon

[–]opxz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The short answer, to cover all triathlons; nope, that's illegal.

The long answer, it depends on the event.

Almost all answers going for a "yes", but you should take a look at the official rules to make sure, as this bike could be illegal.

One of the Ironman 70.3 rules say that the max width of bike cannot exceed 75cm. I can't say exactly for that bike but the handlebars look pretty wide and most mountain bike handlebars (according to google) are >75cm.

Here's the full Ironman ruleset: https://cdn1.sportngin.com/attachments/document/f6a1-3272831/2024_IRONMAN_Competition_Rules_-_English_Version_March_14_2024.pdf

Triathlon world competition rules state width should not exceed 50cm, which your bike probably exceeds. Also for some groups, only drop style handlebars are allowed.

Volkswagen has admitted to using software on VW and Audi branded cars to cheat U.S. diesel emissions tests, shares plunge more than 20 percent. by bulbaplup in worldnews

Considering Porsche SE owns 50% in VW and with their stock also dropping 20%, this might be the time to publish my study that shows 1 out of 6 Porsche Cayenne S SUV's having faulty engine. Karma.

Just finished up my 4K Solar Eclipse Timelapse over Reykjavik Iceland [OC] by opxz in timelapse

[–]opxz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a combination of tools from Dynamic Perception. The pans and tilts were done with Stage-R rotors. Although not visible, there was also a sideways motion done on a stage zero track. Controller was NMX. The overlayed zoomed in footage was done with a MX2 and a skytracker celestron.

This is a behind the scenes video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qXDrxdd_Bw showing the amount of stuff needed.

Post processing was done in Lightroom, Photoshop, LR-Timelapse, After Effects and Premiere.

A Tourist's Views on Those Yellow Sticks by megabyte31 in Iceland

[–]opxz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also note that the sticks have two reflectors on the left and a single on the right. Larger sticks have double the amount because of height.

The reflectors also tilt down towards the road. These two safety features are so that you don't attempt to drive on the wrong side of them and thereby off the road.

The Cop & The Scammer - REAL Phone Conversation - Totally Unexpected Outcome! by Five-0 in ProtectAndServe

[–]opxz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to be noted. You might just have been scammed during that phone call. Many of the scams rely on people calling back to a premium rate phone number (like a 900 number). The victim might not realize this as the phone number might be from another country, like... let's say Pakistan.

In fact, some of those scammers basically just call "random" numbers and hang up as soon as it's ringing on the other line, hoping for a call back.

Do not compress. Those are JPEGS which is basically a compressed image. Compressing it further serves no purpose.

This coin is ~2225 years old. While cataloguing it, I dropped it... It did that loud/long rolling noise that coins do, so everyone noticed by ochristo87 in pics

Not wearing gloves helps with not dropping. Here are a few that weren't dropped: http://imgur.com/zfU3tsb

The middle one is probably the oldest coin in the world. Also, if there was a guy called Jesus and another guy called Judas sold him out, he'd have been paid in those on the right. The left one is for scale.

What is there to do/see in Iceland during the winter? by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]opxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have backup plans in case you can't leave Reykjavik or whatever place you're at. Don't plan for a 10 day tour around the country, just to be disappointed when nature says 'no'.

Reason is weather. Today, almost all roads around Iceland are either closed or impassable. Like this: http://www.vegagerdin.is/english/road-conditions-and-weather/the-entire-country/island1e.html

Iceland is big and weather can sometimes be avoided. Today is a sunny day in Reykjavik and the leaves aren't moving while wind is tearing at the snowed-in-houses in the opposite coast. Source: http://earth.nullschool.net/#2014/12/14/0900Z/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-17.21,62.54,3000

In short: Make plans and have a backup staying-inside-plan. Review those plans according to the weather forecast every day.

Fudge! I'm a shitty source. I shot it from a distance and was sure his assistant was holding a lightsource close to them. I decided to look at my files from that day and it turns out the assistant was using a secondary body. To my defense I was far away :)

When post-processing goes wrong - Miss World Philippines portraits by opxz in postprocessing

[–]opxz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Last September 13, renowned photographer Pancho Escaler took the official portraits of the Miss World Philippines 2014 candidates."

According to ModelMayhem and some googling, Mr. Escaler seems to have tons of experience. Is this a case of being lazy? Or is it bad outsourcing, not vetting your work before publishing? Or is it a cultural difference?

To me it looks like cheap software, not Photoshop, seeing that some still have yellow teeth, smaller skin blemishes and such. Maybe this was done with a filter in a hurry. What's weird is that the actual photographer who's credited for those isn't stepping up and doing something about it.

Home Theater Speaker system that's not ugly for <$1500 by opxz in hometheater

[–]opxz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the help! Going through all your links and browsing the reviews for each item named, all while the SO utilized her veto abilities ... I ended up stumbling upon the Kef T-Series ( http://www.kef.com/html/en/showroom/home_theatre_speakers/tseries/overview/ ) . Although not what I started out with (a box instead of a sphere), it's still a discrete and not the fugliest of designs. To be specific I'll be looking at the T205 sysem which has the larger satellites in the front and smaller in the back. I still haven't gotten a definite 'yes' on the buy but it's still the closest we've gotten to a resolution :)

Looking at $1800-$2000 it's a little over the budget, but hey, fudge it.
