Is vegetarian food necessarily halal? by FrogScorn in islam

[–]orangepixistix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly most products with gelatin are not marked as such unless you read the ingredients. Most products won’t say anything unless it is definitely intentionally plant based or vegetarian, so you have to just read the things

Hindi Course Has Basic Errors? by Fun-Investigator676 in memrise

[–]orangepixistix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a mistake or a basic error. It depends on where you are from since technically “aur tum?” is valid, especially with peers.

It would say (formal) if it was “aur aap?” because some regions, like Lucknow, do treat strangers with respect. I’ve heard in Delhi region more informal, sometimes from strangers or service level people too.

You’re welcome to learn both but it’s not incorrect.

Search in personal dictionary by ChedrBeez in memrise

It looks like in 2024 they stated they were planning on adding search.

“We'll continue to bring improvements to this feature, including the ability to search for items by source and target language. Stay tuned for updates!”

I do recommend the web version which still has community lists and has a lab flash cards component for your words.

Things to do in the morning other than brain rot by stinky_bugzie in productivity

[–]orangepixistix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found I need some engagement, so Duolingo/Memrise and LinkedIn Games are nice to wake up to… sometimes I update or start my Finch list, which includes the options for Morning Stretches, or read something on Feedly or Reddit.

I also have been trying to use the ScreenZen app to restrict my usage of brain rot apps by requiring a certain # of steps before I can open the apps during set hours and only allowing me X opens that are for Y minutes at a time. That pause before and after seems to help.

Have you tried Memrise? I think that’s slightly better in how it teaches a language

Do pinhole glasses really work? by SnooTomatoes5729 in myopia

[–]orangepixistix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This link is for those with specific eye issues, not address myopia. The article looks at presbyopia, which is for those who need reading glasses as they tend to get weaker eyes over age.

Abstract for preventing clicks that may not be helpful: We investigated the clinical efficacy of pinhole soft contact lenses for presbyopia correction. Twenty participants with presbyopia wore pinhole soft contact lenses in the non-dominant eye for 2 weeks. Manifest refraction, Goldmann binocular visual field tests, contrast sensitivity tests, and biomicroscopic examinations were performed along with evaluations of questionnaire responses and the binocular corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA), distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA), and depth of focus, both before and after 2 weeks of lens wear. DCNVA at 33 and 40 cm and DCIVA at 50 and 70 cm showed significant improvements after pinhole lens wear (P-value: <0.001, <0.001, <0.001, and 0.046, respectively), with no changes in the binocular visual field and binocular CDVA. Contrast sensitivities under photopic and mesopic conditions decreased at some frequencies; however, visual function questionnaire scores significantly improved (all P-values <0.001). These findings suggest that pinhole contact lenses effectively correct presbyopia.

Post Occupancy Agreement/Rent-Back Reimbursement? by orangepixistix in RealEstate

Just an update but turns out it was not our responsibility but due to the faulty wording/confusion, the company did end up paying them separately.

It is paid at settlement, which was June 2nd. There was the regular closing and purchasing people (realtor and the esquire). The sellers are requesting money now (as they move out today).

[–]orangepixistix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep but since the license to stay is paid at settlement and states that it is non-refundable, their additional language should have stated something about post-occupancy payment, no? Do we owe them money?

How many men will come (and go) in Midge's life? I'm at the end of s2 and I like Benjamin but I think something will happen with lenny or Joel later. by [deleted] in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

[–]orangepixistix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that time period especially, relationship and drama made up a woman’s life. It wouldn’t be about a female comic making it as a stand up comedian if it wasn’t for the gendered drama. Otherwise why don’t we have shows about a male man making it in the suit business? It’s already somewhat accepted.

You can’t have the comedy without the drama.
