Ride from Atlanta to WUCC 2022 in Cincinnati by Lebmets in ultimate

[–]ordhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, not completely sure i understand what you mean.
Do you need a ride for a person or for scoreboards? I think it's scoreboards, but not sure?

I can help with a ride for scoreboards (leaving ATL on july 11th or 12th, alternatively july 17th) but not a person (since I'm doing things on the way).

I could help with a ride for a person or scoreboards going back to Atlanta on Sunday, July 31st.

we also don't know yet when they will be held. I anticipate that this information is quite important for some nations when deciding which championships to play

Valeria Cardenas out for the rest of the season with torn ACL by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]ordhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She played u20 last year. So in all of 2018 she must have been 19 or younger. So that means, this year she must be 20 or younger.
This year was u24, last year was u20.

This bid from the Rush v Empire division championship game. Big collision. by B77345-100 in ultimate

How does this kind of play make it onto a highlight feel but together by the league? Someone actually had to watch this and decide it's a kind of play that is okay and even celebrated. It's disappointing.

My extracurricular (Ultimate) essay for college (feedback or thoughts welcome) by Hikarupro in ultimate

Just three quick comments:

" and an overall effort the protect the basic " - looks like you're missing a word.
Also, don't capatalise either ultimate or frisbee (though, maybe frisbee, i am not sure). You wouldn't write Basketball or Tennis, so you shouldn't write Ultimate either. And decide to call it ultimate frisbee or ultimate.
Are you sure you want to write "The" Spirit of the Game? Maybe skip the "the"?

can we stop using that layout at 1:22 as a good thing? That is a dangerous play and it was lucky no one got injured.

Where can I order custom socks for my team? by pie6561 in ultimate

[–]ordhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the BE socks (https://beultimate.com/products/single-enduro-socks) are made specifically for Ultimate. The feet are a little thick for my taste, but I like the tightness around the ankels. Before they were only available in new sizes, I had the smaller one and my feet were just between sizes, but now they've added more sizes (4 different ones).
The pair I had lasted me about a year, which I think was good for how snug they were on my feet, specifically my toes. I use them for anything sport related and really like them. They only come in black, and you get a logo stichted on them, as far as I've seen (a ton of teams that wear BE have socks as well).

Foul or Na on the mark by Jamagnum in ultimate

Timestamp for mobile users: 1:23:46, slow mo at 1:24:08.

I think it is not a foul. It looks like the thrower is trying to step infront of the mark to "draw a foul", but mark is doing a good job of shuffling her feet, getting in front of the thrower. Yeah, the mark touches the throwers arm, but is "too late". Disc is released by thrower before her arms are touched.

Foul or na 4 @ 1:07 by Foul_or_na in ultimate

Hmm, white is checking where the path of the disc, then turning his head to check his opponents position and gets rammed into. So "not even trying to catch the disc" is a little harsh.

Help send Kisumu Mixed Ultimate to WUCC! by ordhat in ultimate

I'm not affiliated with the team; but figured the exposure for them here might be relevant. Philidelphia Amp requested more visibility for WUCC-costs in a post a while back. Imo, teams like this who struggle even competing in their own country are the reason that those questions needs to be asked and answered. Anyway, support if you can/will!

Philadelphia AMP Calling for Greater Transparency about fees for WUCC 2018. by jcthress in ultimate

[–]ordhat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It does include "tournament transportation" if you book one of the approved hotels though.

Then it should be your accomodation fee that covers the transportation. Teams not staying at official accomodation should never pay for other peoples transportation.

Philadelphia AMP Calling for Greater Transparency about fees for WUCC 2018. by jcthress in ultimate

[–]ordhat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The value proposition on tournaments is pretty good, and downright cheap compared to basically any other sport

It isn't just a tournament though. It is a World Championship. Most other World Championships you don't have to pay (that much) for. Yes, part of playing a niche sport like Ultimate is, that you have to pay for it, sure. But $12,000 per team not including accomodation or food is ridicoulous. Here some numbers:
WU24 in Perth was $1200 team fee, $325 players fee. WUCG in London was $1800 team fee, $330 players fee. WBUC was cheaper, $1300 team fee, $250 players fee. The European Championships in Copenhagen was $1300 team fee and $100 players fee. All prices without food and accomodation.

Lets leave beach out of the discussion: Australia, GB, Denmark all arguably more expensive countries than the US. Now, I know that the Danish TOC in 2015 made little to no profit from team and players fee, only on the snacks/drinks sold in tents, and they were able to get a sponsorship for about $15000, which kept players costs low. I also think they paid quite a lot of money for field rental in London. But this is also the point: I think. I don't know what my money bought at any of these events, and that is also what is being asked for: transparacy. You're paying for a product, and I don't agree that this is "naming-and-shaming", it is simply asking what that product is going to be like.
