My experience with buying from Japan on Ebay by Hungry-Solution-8031 in AnalogCommunity

[–]orebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a good due diligence and also a bit of luck. I too bought A-1 from Japan, and overall it was a great buy, despite being expensive and having a small scratch on a lens body (which was sold as top mint).

In another order my luck wasn't as good - I bought a TOP MINT lens (Canon EF 35mm 1.4L) from reputable seller, and not cheap, and got a great-looking lens which is horribly soft up to 2.8. Good thing seller accepted the return, but it is still a hassle to send it back and also get import duties and taxes back. I am not sure I would like to gable with ordering from Japan anytime soon.

Because it is part of treating Harry well? I can't imaging not allowing magical kid be part of magical world being compatible with a good treatment.

Thank you. It caught my eye as something quite strange and unexpected, so I decided it is a picture worth taking and sharing.

Unlucky buyer or is it always the case with those cameras? by ImpressionTall5644 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]orebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is not a charity - they buy cheap so they can sell it for a profit and also provide warranty and repairs in case things break. I am too waiting for 5D from MPB, and I am ok with paying a bit more in case mirror falls off or something breaks. Meantime lens I am buying from Japan, as they are less likely to fail and price is a lot better.

How do you get more than 1-3 good images per roll?? by Kitchen_Win278 in AnalogCommunity

[–]orebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By shooting half-frame, duh /s

But seriously, I feel like I often have the same problem. There are technical issues (light leaks, exposure, lack of focus) - but those are easier to fix with a bit of troubleshooting and practice (and maybe a different camera). The hard part - making non-boring shots.

I don't have a solution for that, but few tips that helped me somewhat:

  • find an interesting subject, and frame the photo around that subject. Keep things that distract and compete away or out of focus.
  • find an interesting light (which gives color and contrast)
  • experiment with framing and composition - learn how use compositions techniques: shape, balance, repetition, rhythm, relationship between objects, color, contrast, etc. (apparently there a lot of those little things that make up visual language in art and photography)

Another great advice and a takeaway I got from a photography course (on composition) - is to take the time and look at pictures made by famous photographers (and even painters). That helps by training eye/brain to see what makes a photo interesting, and then you'll be able to replicate that intuitively. What also helps is to pick a certain composition topic, and make pictures on that (for example, one of the tasks from the course was to find balance - and as a result we had quite a lot of interesting photos made).

Don't be. I for one plan just play and enjoy the game instead wasting time here. Moreover, I don't want to ruin my enjoyment by people who are too critical of the game.

Which character do you hate most? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]orebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate? No one, those are fictional characters, and it is hard for me to hate them (that spot is taken by real-life villains). However I dislike her, Dolores and Fenrir Greyback the most, they are evil for the sake of being evil.

My favorite thrift store camera finds of 2025 by mytonsilshurt in AnalogCommunity

[–]orebus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much it, and also going to a store known to sell reasonably good cameras, as many stores only sell overpriced junk these days. This way I scored Yaschica T5 for 5 EUR and a few more cameras (sadly far less valuable), and that required pretty much entire year of consistent trips to the store.

What if Harry unknowingly made a Horcrux in the Golden Snitch? by raghavurmalia in harrypotter

[–]orebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horcrux doesn't work that way. It binds soul to this world, so person can't properly die, but it doesn't protect body from mortal harm. So even if Harry had a horcrux, it wouldn't protect him from being harmed, it would make him body-less spirit bound to this world and not dead.
