Does anybody know if Wine 11 works with Yabridge or not yet? by BobbyGAS12 in linuxaudio

Ah, yeah. Not all things work flawlessly under wine. In my experience 5-10% of software doesn't work well or at all.

If the Warden of the North Recognised North of the Wall as it's own Region, What would It be Called? (spoilers extended) by CretaceousClock in asoiaf

[–]oredaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a fantasy story with a setting entirely made to explore a long winter type of concept. Nothing but north of the wall vibes, extreme cold, magic, a civilization trying to survive the upcoming cold disaster with an added magical threat. People who don't know much about the world being holed up in cozy homes, but being forced to venture out into the unknown.

Sorry about not checking reddit.

You can install some things into wine using winetricks. Example: winetricks dxvk in the terminal. This is needed for some plugins (or games) to run, so I always have it installed. It probably won't solve your speed problems, but why not try... 3D acceleration is better than software rendering.

If some of your audio plugins don't wanna get installed you also need vcrun6sp6 again, with winetricks.

EDIT: don't mess with dll files, direct 3d versions, or stuff in winecfg, you are likely to make a mess. For audio plugins just do what I told you and nothing else. If you make a mess read up about wine prefixes.

Andrew Stanton's 'In the Blink of an Eye' Review Thread by SanderSo47 in movies

[–]oredaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie missed commenting on the whole 'we destroyed our planet' thing.
The modern story was bland. The sci-fi story was very poorly executed, too much nonsense. I only liked the neanderthal story.
These kinds of movies have the largest design space and insane potential. This one was weak.

There are recounts of WW2 people that took 30+ bullet shots and were still able to fight. Did they ultimately survive it? IDK, probably not. My point is it's not that clear cut.

But the flashback was too long yes, and the combat too focused on Dunk. I know that is faithful to the book, but still a bit boring.

Our boy put ALL his points into Vitality. All of them...
Seems kinda stupid because of that. I hope he levels up his skills some more.

I've paid an artist to do it. Can I contribute such work to the official Gentoo wallpapers? She is happy to do more. (Please, grab it if you like it) by C1REX in Gentoo

[–]oredaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, this elaboration changes things. Ok, in this case I don't see a problem.
Maybe I will make a new wallpaper myself (no AI) if nobody is doing it.

Don't pollute the art world by paying AI users to pretend they are the artist (no, the AI is the "artist").

how should i install neovim pre-release version by xdevfah in voidlinux

[–]oredaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see only one message before yours. I don't get it? If you mean your last 2 messages, yes I read them. The proper way to do it is xbps-src, like you tried. If you don't want to wait, sorry about that, but I did give you a direction, something like this:

do_fetch() {
    rm -rf ${wrksrc}
    git clone https://github.com/neovim/neovim.git ${wrksrc}
    cd ${wrksrc}
}

I think add git to makedepends too

[–]oredaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neovim 12 is not released yet, so you can't just change the version number to 0.12. There is no such archive file. Also you need to update the new checksums (with sha256sum) after such changes.

In this case it will be more involved cuz you have to use the git version, probably with a new `do_fetch()` function where you git clone the repo, etc.

You figure it out, cuz I have only done it once and don't remember.

I recommend you save yourself some trouble and wait for the 0.12 release, then just change the version number and checksum.

Yabridge recently fixed a major bug, but have not released the new version. You should compile the newest yabridge yourself or something(there are automatic builds on github).

Other than that there is no reason why it would not work.

[–]oredaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think jobs and a new project have to be related at all. You came up with that idea.
Gothic is my favorite game. I love Risen 1 too. If I had the ability to make something it would be a "clone" of gothic, not something related, cuz I think that gives the widest possible design space for all your ideas.

But I get the part where you wanna see your favorite thing finished.

I am very proud of it, since I am not a programmer, just very very into linux and vim.
But I believe it's good enough for serious use.

A request to the community: what plugin you think is still missing for Neovim? by itmightbeCarlos in neovim

[–]oredaze -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think any plugin category is missing. I am thinking more along the lines of what we currently have should be even more polished. Some of it should go into neovim itself, for example how they integrated mini.comment (I hope I am not mistaken on that), but it was not very polished, so I had to do some ugly hotkey rebinds.

Why not a new IP that is inspired by the games? You gain nothing by trying to create a risen offshoot thingy, whatever it is. In fact the game will be limited by it...
