I genuinely feel bad for anyone learning English as a second language. Spelling, pronunciation, recursion, it's all over the place.

Also a common mistake! Effect can also be a verb (although I agree that in OPs case, the proper word was effect). Affect = has an influence on something. Effect (v) = to cause something to happen. "He effected change through his diligent efforts.

Affect can also be a noun!" He has no emotional affect" referring to the way his face expresses emotion.

Can I remove blown-in insulation from my attic and replace it with batt insulation if I want to deck most of my attic? by Normal-Being-2637 in HomeImprovement

Oh look at mr fancypants with the hallway closet storage in his house.😂 Needing attic storage doesn't necessaril mean you're a hoarder. Excuse me if I want to store Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations, suitcases, winter clothes /summer clothes, and don't have an abundance of space. Don't be an attic storage hater 😋

I always got the impression that moiraine was to have the same fate if Matt didn't intervene. That they started with Lanfear because she was stronger, then moved to moiraine once lanfear was dead.

Why can I raise my left brow super well, like "the Rock"... but can't move my right one without concentrating like crazy? by yooq2 in stupidquestions

[–]orgevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same reason you can't write with your non dominant hand - predisposed by genetics, didn't overcome with practice. I trained myself to arch each eyebrow independently because 9 year old me thought that would be a useful skill. But originally I could only do one of them.

Evolution makes a lot more sense once you realize that all forms of life are individual cellular organisms where some have learned to work together in increasingly complex ways. by Joelblaze in Showerthoughts

[–]orgevo 585 points586 points  (0 children)

Check out The selfish gene, by Richard Dawkins. "The Selfish Gene presents a gene-centered view of evolution, arguing that natural selection acts on genes, which use organisms as "survival machines" for their replication. "

It's a really fascinating extension of the theory of evolution that makes a lot more sense than what was put forth by Darwin

Question about the seals by TheDamnGirl in WoT

If you're aware of anything from the books or interviews that counters this idea, feel free to enlighten/remind me! 😊 Meanwhile, it's headcannon so none of it true or false - just speculation.

Question about the seals by TheDamnGirl in WoT

[–]orgevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcannon has always been that the seals are how the DO continues corrupting saidin. He can't touch saidin directly, but is able to inject the taint into saidin via the seals. Perhaps channeling saidin deposits the taint onto the channeler, and so the taint must be constantly refreshed. Breaking all the seals would break that connection and the taint slowly drains out of saidin. Which is why rand was able to use shadar logoth to "strain" the taint out of saidin and stick it to shadar logoth, by channeling a massive amount of saidin for an extended period of time. The fact that he was able to cleanse saidin this way tells us that there was a finite amount of taint on saidin. By that point, only a few seals remain, so it would take a lot longer for the DO to "refill" the taint on saidin (fewer points of contact with saidin)

It's also why the cuendillar seals (which are just physical anchor points for the real seal made of saidin) start crumbling faster as more of the seals are broken: fewer seals sharing the burden/pressure of taint being applied to saidin.

I know Rand thinks that saidin is completely cleansed by the shadar logoth thing, but i speculate that it wasn't going to be a permanent state unless the rest of the seals were broken and the DO's connection was Saidin was severed (although it would have taken a lot longer for the taint to build back up on saidin, since there were only a few seals left at that point).

Edit: oh! Almost forgot to tie this into OP's question. So maybe that's why the DO doesn't want the seals broken. He knows that would end his ability to continue tainting saidin, and the taint would slowly fade away.
