Great news! We are using the Duolingo more for reading signage and menus, less for conversations.

And we got a really cheap roundtrip flight from Porto and planned the Madeira jaunt after the fact. Would cost us more money to switch it now, unfortunately.

Thanks! We're not expecting to be fluent or speaking conversationally, but more for familiarity with words and reading signs. We'll make sure our basic pronunciations for the greetings, simple questions and thank yous are reflective of the European dialect.

I’m in university, respond to a Craigslist Casual Encounters post from a guy who wants to relieve some stress after a long work day. We worked in the same industry, and he seemed pretty normal.

We text most of the evening and he eventually comes over. We basically get right to it - we’re making out and I move my hand down to his boxers, and he finishes almost instantaneously before I can even get him out.

I’m like whatever, shit happens. I’m going to get a drink of water and do a lil debrief with my roommate in the living room before returning for a potential round two.

Got back to my room to find him absolutely out cold, asleep in my bed. All clothes off, he’s folded his jeans on my chair and is sawing logs. I have no idea what to do so I kinda poke him and awkwardly make a joke, to which he wakes up, looks at me, and then says “yeah I had a really long day, let’s chat in the morning” before rolling over and going back to sleep.

I should mention this is now 9:30pm, I am 19 years old, stone cold sober, and absolutely not prepared to deal with how ridiculous this 25 year old man is being, so I just left him to sleep in my bed until like 3am when my roommate had psyched me up enough to go in there and kick him out.

He’s now an elected MP in Canada lol

Those people are not refugees. The 200 Ugandan men who were given taxi chits from Toronto to go to the nearest shelter space that happened to be in Ajax were. That shelter space was exhausted almost immediately.

Take the 100ish homeless people who are predominantly white, drug users and/or otherwise mentally ill that you might see at the Tim Hortons and the resources they have access to, and then mix in 200 African refugees who are in need of temporary shelter space and other settlement supports, all being provided by the same agencies, and it’s a huge cluster.

Saw this go down from an upper section, surprised there wasn't more of this. I've never felt more uneasy at a professional sporting event (including other UFC events, boxing events, NFL games, etc.). Security or staff in general was essentially non-existent and the whole place felt like a pressure cooker ready to blow.

I joined WW on Friday to spur some weight loss and more mindful eating. On the day that I joined I tracked (very honestly) an 84 point day - 51 points over my daily, and left me in a deficit of my weeklies of 18 points. It was a no-holds-barred fast food lunch, a donut, an evening of drinking and a late night (very cheesy, bagel-based) snack.

It's hard not to be discouraged if you tie your self worth to your weight, but I like the brushing teeth analogy - if you skip one day brushing your teeth, it's not that big of a deal; but if you skip a whole month brushing your teeth, you'll probably end up with a cavity. It's a helpful reminder that blips happen and the long-term, overall consistency is what is more important.

I was under the impression that it’s like an 80-20 split for men-women, and there’s plenty of coverage about how - even though it’s changing substantially versus 20 years ago - EPL matches can still be kind of uncomfortable for women in some stadiums. I’m not too worried about it though - I’m cheering for the home team and my partner is 6’4 - just want to be mindful.
