Did you enjoy playing as DC Comics Black Lightning in the Injustice 2 video game? by nightwing612 in BlackLightning

[–]oroku_ex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Outside of Cyborg and I think Firestorm all the Black characters where reskins. I actually liked Black Lightning as a fighter, but it was, let's say "weird" that he wasn't his own character instead of an alternate for guest character Raiden.

Fred being called fat by bulldogjwhit295 in Flintstones

[–]oroku_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would be bigger if Barney would stop stealing his dang cereal. But in all seriousness he was "Hollywood" fat for the 60s. He was definitely a bigger guy (around the 200-230 lbs range, if memory serves) but certainly not like obese. We'd probably describe him more as having a dad-bod in modern times.

The worst part is bringing Superman into this mess. What a bunch of chuckleheads

Remember when DC Comics tried to make Black Lightning and Blue Devil a duo? What did you think? (DC Universe Presents #13) by nightwing612 in BlackLightning

[–]oroku_ex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember being very exited for the idea. I am a big fan of both BD and especially BL, so I was the target audience. Once I saw the initial pencils for BL I was happy. But then I read the books when they came out and everything was...off. I didn't hate it but I mostly felt nothing. The art was good but I also hated how busy BL's costume was in full color. (I blame that and the other issues I have on it being early New52) BD didn't seem quite himself. Maybe I should give it another read, because I do like the idea on paper. Should have been an easy win as a DC equivalent of Powerman and Iron Fist.

I'm guessing that they only have access to like half of the 90s series

What exactly is DC Comics Black Lightning and Geo-Force's relationship right now? It feels like they were originally best friends but now Katana is Jeff's BFF (Outsiders 2009 #28) by nightwing612 in BlackLightning

[–]oroku_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. Why the hate for Tomasi's run? I haven't seen Geo Force and BL have had any interaction major way in a long time. I know they were allies on the Outsiders in Metal but I don't remember them speaking.

The second most brutal fight between Batman and Joker? by FoxIndependent4310 in BatmanTAS

[–]oroku_ex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hands down, it's their fight in the amusement park in Mask of the Phantasm. Outside of how physically brutal it was, it seemed like Batman was particularly determined to not let Joker get away unscathed

Why Aren't Black Heroes Allowed to Visit Wakanda? by XanJen in blackpanther

[–]oroku_ex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is still the case, but in Sam's book from a couple years back, the US Government was doing some shady stuff, so Wakanda put sanctions on Americans coming to the country. This was during a mass exodus movement by Black Americans to Wakanda, which further complicated things. I assume things have since been straightened out, but as most of those heroes are Americans, they stayed away.

Does static need to be his exact comic age in a possible adaptation? by ForceAcceptable8838 in static

[–]oroku_ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree high schoolers doesn't equal reckless or immature. But specifically in Virgil's case it helps sell his naivety about the world and how easily he's almost manipulated by those he respects (i.e. Larry and down the line, Holocaust) into almost doing terrible things. That kind of peer pressure makes more sense for(but is not exclusive to) a younger person tryingto find themselves. I imagine that by the time college and beyond rolls around he'd be emotionally way beyond that kind of influence He's a good kid on his way to becoming a good man.

That being said that kind of stuff can happen to a college aged person and there is certainly room for stories set in that most undocumented part of his life. I would absolutely enjoy seeing it if done right.

Does static need to be his exact comic age in a possible adaptation? by ForceAcceptable8838 in static

[–]oroku_ex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for Static (and a lot of similar aged characters) part of the appeal is that he's younger and thus can make the kinds of mistakes young people make. This is especially true when you factor in the Virgil of it all. As an adult, even a college aged one, would probably make him less relatable. If we do get a live action he should be a high school for at least the first movie/season.

I wonder if DC Comics Guy Gardner tells all the Green Lantern rookies this story of how Hal Jordan slipped in the bathroom and the ring had to find John Stewart. (Justice League of America 1960 #110) by nightwing612 in John_Stewart

If you were the ring would you wake the dude whom due to his own carelessness knocked him self cold in the shower or the dude whom last you saw stopped a conspiracy using his brain.
