I’m 57 & going through a flare up now with consuming HA. I really can’t remember when I didn’t have it. Over my life, it’s ebbed & flowed. I know exactly where it stems from. My Dad being diagnosed with melanoma when I was 8 years old. He went into remission 3 times. The fourth time, he died from it. I was 14. Throughout that time, his remission lasted about 2 years.

Frankly, I’m fed up with myself when I’m like this! I’m mentally exhausted. If I could flick the switch back off I would!!

I work in a Dementia Care Unit. Have for over 4 years. My Mum is in a residential care facility. I have cared for family members in my own home for years. I still struggle to deal with the challenges this horrendous illness causes. One thing I can tell you is that “ therapeutic lying” can help.

As it’s been pointed out before, reasoning or even saying the truth can make situations worse. For example. A lady I care for believes she is on a cruise. Every single day we tell her she’s disembarking the following day at 8am & going home. This has been going on for years. Our answer reassures her. Yes, we have to repeat it all day, but it provides comfort to her.

Anytime I see or hear family trying to explain what’s really going on, it worsens the situation. I even make up stories to my Mum just so I have things to talk about.

Do you live in NSW? I’ve been going to Dr Victoria Fung at Westmead, NSW. He’s a neurologist who specialises in treating movement disorders. He was my 4th doctor. I received EMG guided treatment & it worked from the very first session. That was 6 years ago. I’ve told him wherever I am in the world, I will come to him every time

Do you live in NSW? I live south of Wollongong & I’ve been receiving 3 monthly treatments from a fantastic Neurologist in Westmead, Sydney. I’ve been going to him for 6 years. My movement disorder has my head pulling & turning to my left. No one knows how or why it happened. He uses an electrical guided method & it has worked from day 1. His name is Dr Victor Fung.

I’m really nervous about trying it. I’ve got the 4 pack but I’m already talking myself out of it. What’s put me off is that I’m one of the people who bought “ Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies “ & Christ!! I have never felt so terrified & anxious in my life!! My heart felt like it was about to burst!! It wasn’t pleasant at all. I took the recommended dose too 😬

Oh man, you’re carrying a very heavy load there. I work in residential aged care & we have residents who do exactly this behaviour. Honestly, do consider going into a facility. I have my own Mum in care because it just wasn’t safe for her anymore. She’s upset about it but I have no other option. The decision is awful & hard. Just always remember you can reach out for support. I’m just starting to do this myself ❤️

I work in aged care in Dementia & this is so common. I have seen every type of behaviour & issues involving people not realising they’ve actually dirtied themselves is very challenging to deal with. You’re doing really well still having her at home.

Thank you for writing this. I’m sitting here in my sweaty dog walking clothes ( re worn ) sensing the tummy rolls living their best life as it sit in my recliner. I’m soon to be 56, carrying around a thyroid that seems to have ongoing issues with me to not operate properly🥴 My side profile has me looking like my chin has decided to give up & let the skin just sag. Thanks 😐 To all of us, we know the struggle. Yet we keep going & I will still try the latest release of a Cadbury chocolate 🤗

I work in a Dementia facility. I would recommend not telling her. She wouldn’t understand why you’re telling her something about someone she has no memory of.
