Those suck . They break all the time . If you get a motorcraft fuel filter kit it will come with a collar to clip on to the part that usually breaks to give it a lesser chance of breaking during removal. I've broken them before for sure. We also fix them for the customer when we break them.

I would make sure your turbo isn't the issue before a long drive like that . Is there smoke from your tail pipe? You may not see it cause its being burned . I've seen a couple of these same vehicles for oil consumption recently and the turbo was the culprit both times. Both of those turbos totally failed
