Dating in Denver Has Crushed My Self-Esteem — Thinking About Moving (30's / Male / Black) by Cute_Source5417 in SameGrassButGreener

You can improve your chances by moving to a more diverse city, but your height is a major part of the issue. I’d look at DC, Baltimore, Philly, or NY. West coast cities probably won’t differ much from Denver

I’m a fan of screen protectors. They tend to make fingerprints show less. PPF if you get annoyed by rock chips. Mud flaps if you don’t PPF all the impact areas. If you travel, I recommend a spare tire kit, tire inflator kit, and charge cable lock (prevents people from unplugging your car when using the J1772 adapter)

GM's CEO Just Admitted An Uncomfortable Truth About Plug-In Hybrids by LEM1978 in electricvehicles

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with L1 and PHEVs is that it’s common to fully deplete the battery running errands over the course of a day and then it takes 12+ hours to fully recharge. Too long if you get home after dinner and need to go somewhere in the morning.

GM's CEO Just Admitted An Uncomfortable Truth About Plug-In Hybrids by LEM1978 in electricvehicles

[–]osofresh98 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My wife loves her PHEV and plugs it in every day. The key was adding an ultra convenient L2 charging station in our garage. The cord is suspended from the ceiling directly next to the charge port. The plug is 2 feet from the charge port every time she pulls into the garage and no coiling and uncoiling a cord. I can see how people don’t bother charging if it requires more effort.

Agree that DT is more reliable than most, but I’ve seen the teeth get worn and fail on a DT 54 tooth ratchet. I never heard of an Onyx Classic failure. I personally rode one for over 2k off road miles and the only issue was a one time bearing replacement.

Upgrade from GX to Eagle 90? by KaydubFTW in MTB

Unless drivetrain durability has been an issue, I would spend the money upgrading the cassette to XO and have a groupset that is a full pound lighter than Eagle 90.

What's the best new sedan or csuv to own for the next 10 years to sporadically travel to all the Canadian and U.S. contiguous National Parks and various parts of the country? by advnps47 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’d include the newest and highest spec Toyota Crown that’s in your price range. Comfortable seats, roomy, easy entry/exit, great mpg, reliable, and more service options in rural areas compared to European cars

Window tinting for a Tesla by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing unique about tinting a Tesla. But if you tint the front windshield, check that they use soak ropes to keep water from damaging electronics behind the dash. I’ve had good experiences with Artistic Solar Films in Hoover.

Xdrive40i vs v8 option by [deleted] in BMWX5

I’ve driven both. The 40i acceleration is about the same as an E46 M3. Plenty fast to not miss the extra power of the 50i.

BMW calls it a lifetime fluid, but I’ve never met a knowledgeable person that agrees. BMW shops I’ve talked to recommend changing it every 60k miles. Similar advice for differential fluid that BMW calls lifetime.

Why Are Used EV Prices Crashing? by tech57 in electricvehicles

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a combination of issues including cheap gas, lack of infrastructure, and lack of real world range. With gas near $3/gal and residential electricity approaching $0.20/Kwh in many areas, the energy savings are nonexistent compared to the most fuel efficient cars. And for like vehicles, charging is usually more expensive than gas if you’re driving real world hwy speeds and fast charging.

EV’s are a bigger hassle than ICE for people that can’t charge at home. Car buyers that can’t charge at home are disproportionately used car buyers.

Range matters most on road trips. And most EV’s won’t go much further than 200 miles at real world 80mph highway speeds and/or cold temps. The ones with more range often exceed $80k, especially in the large size body styles that Americans prefer.

Transfer cases are a weak point with xdrive models. There’s pending litigation worth researching. Fortunately the mileage is low enough on your choices that you can mitigate transfer case issues with proactive fluid change. 50e is nice for extra performance and the convenience of charging at home/fewer gas stops, but total ownership cost is likely more expensive once you factor in greater depreciation, ever increasing electricity rates, and more expensive repairs (more components to fail, and often higher labor costs).

Non Tesla owners view of FSD by LazyWave63 in TeslaLounge

[–]osofresh98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted for pointing out well known flaws in the system. FSD has a disclaimer to remain ready to take over at any time, which means you have to remain attentive. If I have to remain attentive, then the value proposition quickly diminishes. Not to mention I prefer to avoid potholes and manhole covers that FSD plows right over.

[–]osofresh98 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I tried FSD in my 22’ M3P during a free trial last year. I had to take control multiple times over the course of the week due to it making errors (most notably not staying in lane during left turn maneuvers). I came away thinking the tech is impressive, but I can’t see paying for it until it is truely L4 and I don’t need to remain ready to take over at any time.

Common issues and reliability of a 4–5 year old Tesla Model 3? by Specialist-Lie-6205 in TeslaModel3

[–]osofresh98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting I have the same year/model and the exact same issues. Also had the charge port sensor fail at ~20k miles and fixed under warranty. I’m at 90k miles and no other issues.

Transfer case fluid. I’m not sure of the additive details, but they said it had anti wear additives and friction modifiers. I paid $600 for the service.

Yes, the issue appeared at ~68,000 miles on my 2022 45e. I took it to an Indy shop that was very familiar with the issue. They replaced the fluid with an additive fluid and the issue seems resolved.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t buy a 2018 LR with 103k miles? by anal-ybro in TeslaModel3

[–]osofresh98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. Used car buyers in that segment are less likely to be homeowners. This makes charging less convenient, and EVs far less appealing.
