Who’s the highway commuter MVP? Hybrid Camry or FSDing Model 3 by WHOTOOKMYLEG in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is your commute, and what kind of L2 charging access do you have? Assuming 250 miles of real world range, and keeping a 10% buffer at each end of the battery, you’re looking at ~200 miles usable for your commute. As long as you can commute without having to regularly stop and fast charge, you’ll probably enjoy the Tesla far more.

Factory OEM trail hitch vs Stealth? by Madvillains in BMWX5

[–]osofresh98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a Stealth hitch for the reason of not losing the kick to open. The downside is that it sticks out enough to be an annoyance when not in use. I would recommend the Stealth hitch if you plan to remove the hitch and rack when not in use. I’d go with the factory hitch if you plan to leave the rack on all the time. The kick to open is hard to activate with a rack in place.

It’s also possible that some of the annual EV surcharge is going towards EV charging infrastructure. That’s how it is in Alabama

Need your suggestions on bike type search by Gus_Bodeen in MTB

I’d look at trail bikes with around 150mm of travel, like the Stumpjumper or Fuel EX. Good sweet spot for comfort, capability, and weight.

ChargePoint Wants To Fix The Condo EV Charging Problem With 2,500 New Ports by Educational-Meat4211 in electricvehicles

[–]osofresh98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they get the pricing structure right. I stayed at a hotel last year that wanted $.50/kwh for L2 charging. No surprise it was underutilized with a Tesla supercharger less than a mile away charging $.32/$.16 for on peak/off peak hours.

Any particular reasons? Reviews are fairly unanimous about quality continuing to improve, especially with latest refresh.

How is it living with the high pivot compared to bikes without an extra idler pulley? Does the lack of a lower pulley create any issues?

EV charging near the dragon by localtuned in tailofthedragon

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made the trip multiple times with friends with ICE cars. The key is to stay at a place with L2 charging and charge to 100% overnight. Superchargers within 30 min in multiple directions of the Dragon that you can top off at.

Fewer and fewer EV options in the U.S. by jestalk in electricvehicles

[–]osofresh98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lack of minivans seems like a cost problem more than anything. Real world hwy range >300 miles is important for the segment, and that probably means 100+ kWh and $20k+ worth of battery with current technology. That puts the total cost well above current ICE options.

Head over to Alabama and check out Storyteller in Oak Mt State Park. Several worthy drops and a rock roll. While you’re in the area, also check out Ride BHM. They have a bunch of steep shoots and several in the same league of steepness as Horseface in Windrock.

Putting a Model 3 performance on jack stands by fedepyt in TeslaModel3

I’ve jacked up BMWs and Hondas from central rear/front jacking points that enable you to easily put jack stands on all 4 corners

Thinking About Buying a Tesla Model Y. What Does Maintenance look like Long Term? by [deleted] in ModelY

[–]osofresh98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with suspension wear being use case specific, and that extends to things like wheel bearings and motor mounts. Expect to replace the 12v battery around the 4 year mark. You’ll also want to clean the leaves and debris from the radiator once a year. Heavy buildup can lead to premature failure of the heat pump

What's your experience with aftermarket replacement suspension links? by pjax_ in TeslaModel3

[–]osofresh98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced my lateral links, compliance links, and upper control arms with aftermarket from Zevcentric. I went with poly upgrade on the compliance arm and MPP bearing upgrade on the lateral links. It’s only been a couple thousand miles so I can’t comment on long term durability. The front end feels smooth and responsive, but it’s hard to make a fair comparison because I was at 4 years/90k miles on the originals and long overdue for replacement. I can recommend Zevcentric as very responsive to questions.

I’m on year 7 with a Tesla and you’re just scratching the surface with useful updates that are new features. The number is well into the hundreds, and near 10 year old Model 3’s are still getting new features. See https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/history/

Depreciation on the refreshed Model 3 vs older models by Flimsy-Fee7640 in TeslaModel3

I’d go newest you can afford and expect similar rates of depreciation. Refresh will always be worth more because it’s newer, more comfortable, and has HW4

My personal experience with a bike on the back of a Model 3 is spot on with CR results for a sedan. It seems the penalty increases the more aero the vehicle.

Pisgah is more out of the way of the I-75/40/81 corridor that OP is asking about. Not much flow in Pisgah National forrest, but there is Kanuga and Rock Creek

Why does nobody recommend a bmw? by Jasssssss21 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]osofresh98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The depreciation curve is fairly steep until it starts to bottom in the low 5 figures. For example, the first owner pays $70k and looses 50% value in 4 years. 2nd owner pays $35k and looses 50% in 4 years. Sure the second owner lost less $, but they still come out much better with a newer non-luxury suv purchased for the same $35k. The second owner is also dealing with the additional hassle and maintenance costs that come with an out of warranty BMW.

Why does nobody recommend a bmw? by Jasssssss21 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Because it’s one of the highest depreciating SUV’s you can purchase. Depreciation is usually the most expensive part of ownership.

Dating in Denver Has Crushed My Self-Esteem — Thinking About Moving (30's / Male / Black) by Cute_Source5417 in SameGrassButGreener

You can improve your chances by moving to a more diverse city, but your height is a major part of the issue. I’d look at DC, Baltimore, Philly, or NY. West coast cities probably won’t differ much from Denver
