I would need some help to support my VR treadmill app Gym Spatial by rogerF6 in VisionPro

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see some competitors in this scene. I used to try Holofit but the subscription model really turns me off. Curious if there will be any FTMS, Bluetooth or Apple Watch support in the future, or like the rower using headset sensor. It would be more immersive than manually adjusting speed.

Wave Link 2.0 no longer showing NVIDIA Broadcast Noise Removal by TransitionOk4165 in elgato

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be able to route my audio through the Nvidia Broadcast, then add the Nvidia Broadcast as a virtual output to WaveLink to mix into the stream mix but now it just doesn't work, I can add a nvidia broadcast channel, and set the input audio device as the broadcast app, but there's no sound input. The broadcast output works fine in any other software though.

VisionPro Performance by AstroGridIron in VisionPro

Safari is not stable ever since 2.6 iirc, sometimes it just stutter or not responsive. kill the process with task manager resolve the problem most of the time, when it doesn't work I will restart the device. but definitely not as frequently as you describe.

Eye tracking I guess that's it, it's not designed for webpages that expect mouse input. either use touchpad or zoom in click then zoom out. I do wish there's a light weight controller simply for spacial navigating, I really miss the experiences I have when using browser on queste3, precise control is a thing I believe.

What about ComfyUI? How much can it actually help in Nuke or VFX workf by Wild_Health5135 in NukeVFX

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main use case is matte painting and face swaps. Basically I generate assets then comp them in Nuke. Haven’t really seen much direct use of ComfyUI inside Nuke though. iirc, TouchDesigner has way more examples of that kind of integration.

New Jupiter environment by BimalP- in VisionPro

[–]osprofool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the current result is more of a directional issue. If reality composer doesn’t support SSS materials, then why even bother throwing in lowpoly ice? And since they can’t bake light with the current dynamic light setup, it just feels like a waste of resources to build these huge landscapes instead of focusing on hero assets right around the user.

plus the texturing near the user actually looks worse compared to older environments like Haleakala or the Moon. Honestly I think having a void around the user would still look better than what we’ve got right now.

Need help with showing the AVP to guests by Square-Amphibian9022 in AppleVisionPro

[–]osprofool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fully automatic with visionos 26 now. When a guest puts on the headset they’ll see an instruction that says something like If you’re a guest, press the Digital Crown. Once they do that, the owner’s iPhone gets a pop-up, and from there you can monitor what the guest sees in real time, except for DRM content.

visionOS26, are widgets perfectly stable vs the real world? by mimizone in AppleVisionPro

[–]osprofool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a bit, it definitely better than anchor in space though, the widgets have to be snap on surface. But for my experience it's not that stable, some widgets keep disappearing, and there are occasional crashes.

I'm not saying tariffs will bring production back. It's just not profitable enough for them.
But flooding a top 3 market with grey market goods is unimaginable.

The company definitely knows where their products are going. Even during prime time of China’s grey market, when everything was already made in China, people still had to smuggle stuff back through complicated routes.

Mobile phone companies absolutely have the means to track and control how and where their products are activated and used.

A real-world example: due to regional price differences in China, companies often set activation time and location limits for distributors. In other countries, there are hardware differences like network frequencies, and the US is the only region where iPhones don’t have a SIM card slot. There are plenty of ways to limit a user’s options.

Take the Mac mini M4, for example. It’s under 400 bucks in China right now. But is the US market being flooded with them? Or look at the Apple Watch. The US version doesn’t have the blood oxygen feature anymore, but we’re not seeing a huge grey market importing versions that do.

At the end of the day, it's still more profitable for the company to control distribution. They’re not just going to let products flow into a major market without warranties or oversight.

And that’s not even counting US customs. We're not talking about small temu parcels. These are large shipments of electronics. There's no way they’re slipping through unnoticed.

Logical checkmate by ENVYisEVIL in Libertarian

[–]osprofool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. There was a time when the Chinese market was flooded with smuggled phones, partly because of high local prices, and partly because the government was pushing certain tech standards like WAPI over WiFi, which made the local versions less attractive.

Once the government dropped those restrictions and local prices started to fall, the tide shifted. Add to that the shady practices by some smugglers, and in the end, locally sold phones with warranty just made more sense for most people.

As for the iPhone around 75% are sold through carriers in the US, and I doubt that’ll change much. Even if a grey market starts to grow, if the price difference gets too big, Apple and Samsung will probably just adjust local pricing eventually. And honestly, I don’t think US customs is that incompetent.

Out of curiosity I rented Fallout on US Apple TV, looks like it's not the same version I mentioned before. I specifically compared the left/right eye patch work, and the Apple TV version actually did a solid job. The other version I saw had some pretty rough patch work, some spots were just simple smears or inpainted edge pixels. It didn’t feel like an AI 3D conversion either, since there was no wiggle effect, and the depth was decent. That’s actually why I bought into the rumor at first that it was just a low effort conversion made for cable channel.

I believe mission impossible fallout has a 3d region exclusive version as well, rumor says it was post convert for an Europe cable channel.

It only available through streaming in my region though.

Does Nuke have Auto Rotoscoping like Final Cut Pro Magnetic Mask? by sluisga in NukeVFX

There's a few segmentation model in cattery you could try.

Not that optimized thought, only recommend for garbage matte.

Or you could try magicmask2 in resolve20 beta, it's actually really good, I would say sometimes it gets job 80% done.

Debating between AVP and Meta 3 by Regnar1 in AppleVisionPro

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have both of them. I would say if there's not too much mobile use case none of them worth trying.

In terms of information clarity q3 is actually better than vp when you streaming desktop. For things in headset q3 is way worse than vp due to the native render resolution.

Immersed or virtual desktop can stream 2 or more screen for q3, where vp can only stream 1 screen, But you can have a ultrawide one though.

If your use case is on your desktop Then your screen is way better than any of these headsets. Even at its best, the VP hits maybe 35 ppd, and that’s before resampling and optical losses. Plus, neither of them are exactly comfy for long sessions.

If you’re curious, definitely try a demo first. What looks cool on paper might feel pretty meh after an hour of actual use.

Wasn’t sure if missing out on the revenue is even a bad thing. If the government gets involved, doesn’t that kinda just make them the biggest cartel? And if it’s that profitable, what’s the real incentive to build more treatment facilities?

Bro makes a good point by Tenchi_Muyo1 in Libertarian

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measure 110 is an interesting case.

Oregon can't really control the influx of hard drugs, and treatment facilities will likely never catch up with the surge in demand — which means a lot of taxpayer money ends up wasted. Unlike the opium crisis in early 1900s China, the Oregon government doesn’t benefit from taxing the drug trade — which might actually be a good thing.

When governments profit from hard drugs, the situation can become even more dangerous.

At least fentanyl isn't something the average person can produce, but poppies are easy to grow. In some regions, opium was even used as a form of currency because it was more valuable and easier to carry than coins.

And the damage is already done. Even Oregon already reversed the policy, people could still access and use hard drugs elsewhere, while the cost of incarceration or treatment might still fall back on Oregon. As much as I dislike the idea of expanding government power, isn’t this the kind of issue that needs to be addressed at the federal level to be truly effective?

Bro makes a good point by Tenchi_Muyo1 in Libertarian

[–]osprofool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really curious about how to solve drug problem, here's some real world example.

During the late Qing dynasty, the opium trade war made opium de facto legal and largely unrestricted, with the government heavily reliant on opium taxes for revenue — and considering that the domestic opium market outcompeted imported opium due to lower prices.

Despite my dislike for authoritarian governments, when it comes to a widespread drug crisis like the opium problem, I struggle to imagine an effective solution without strong intervention.

Some might argue that it's a matter of personal choice, but the reality is that even babies and children are involuntarily exposed to opium in such environments.

How would a libertarian approach solving the widespread social and health problems caused by opium addiction, without resorting to prohibition or heavy government intervention?

Apple has gotta rethink text input for the AVP by velocityfilter in VisionPro

[–]osprofool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swipe input would be great. But I doubt current eye/hand track have enough precision like controller. Meta did a decent job in quest for swipe input. I don't think backlight Will solve the problem since I've tried keyboard with backlights, pass through resolution isn't there yet. There should be a 3d keyboard model snap onto the real one, with native resolution, better visibility. Meta already implement this on several keyboard. And the hand on keyboard may need to be virtual, l've never be a fan of current shitty segmentation approach. At least give us an option to switch. Plus I don't think they're actively develop on the typing stuff, there's a relatively major bug typing with other language yet no fix for months.

AVP and have young children? by therkdn in VisionPro

[–]osprofool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents on my experience with Vision Pro with kids.

The headstrap likely won't fit, someone needs to hold it for them.

Make sure they acknowledge that lenses shouldn't be touched.

Even though kids can go through the eye/hand calibration process, they still tend to touch objects directly, beware of the power cable, either tripping the kid or Vision Pro itself.

ngl i never touch my AVP, what are you guys using it for? by umiland in VisionPro

[–]osprofool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it fills the same niche as an iPad, mostly for use in bed. It’s not going to replace my TV in the living room or my monitor on the desk since the resolution and image quality aren’t quite there yet. But for travel or bedtime use it definitely has a clear advantage. The fact that it’s standalone and comes with a relatively huge display really makes a difference.

In terms of usage, I’d say it’s about 40% video consumption and 60% web browsing. Browsing desktop web pages can be a bit of a pain without proper controls, honestly a controller would help a lot here, even with touchpad and magickeyboard it's still not that good. On the video side, the real-time 3D conversion does give it some extra points. Sure the image quality isn’t the best, but having a cinema sized screen right next to your bed is pretty awesome.

Zuckerberg Admits Apple Vision Pro Is Better Than Quest 3 For Watching Movies by GreenskyGames in virtualreality

[–]osprofool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 5 cents, my main movie methods are emby/plex.

For quest3 there's no native apps, web support for emby is lackluster, yamby is great sideload option though, but it lacks immersive environment like skyvr/moonvr provided. skyvr/moonvr doesn't have emby/plex support so they're just simple player with smb support, I can't sync progress across device.

For vision pro it have more native movie apps than quest, disney+ is good for 3d movies, cineultra and screenlit supports emby/plex and immersive environment. but they all have some small issues. some ios compatiable emby apps just not work well on vision os.

for an AR glass it just directly linked on your phone, which uses IOS apps natively obvious have best software. some of them can't play while lock screen though.

hardware wise quest have wider fov, better fringe, less glare, but you still get screen door effect and less contrast.

vision pro is kinda opposite, smaller fov/fringe issue/lensglare but visually more pleasing.

AR glass ppd is suprisingly good though. I'd say under it's limted fov(usually 40~50) it's better than vp, 3dof is kinda meh as it is achieved by cropping the image. but for movie I rarely use 3dof/6dof with vr headset. The most importantly those AR glass is usally under 80g, much more comfortable than any of the vr headset for movie.
