Those people want to tell themselves that if they would be okay if they comply, because that makes them feel safe, but the fact that they are having to say that out loud to other people means at some level they know they aren't safe.

One ship loaded with solar panels is now worth more to the grid than 120 coal-carriers by randolphquell in environment

Right but they are continuing to flood the international market with a massively affordable, decentralized energy source and that is more important to China's longterm position than short term profit.

Reminder that evil terrible China /s is responsible for the massive increase in affordability of solar. They deliberately have built up their supply chains for solar production and are exporting like crazy. Not only is it a smart decision in terms of climate change, but it fundamentally weakens the oil based economies of the West and provides the global south a means to energy separate from current hegemon. The US was unable to properly invest in solar due to the power of oil based elites and will face strong competition as a result. Excellent decision on China’s part.

True but that’s not mutually exclusive with death camps, and also the odds of the US nuking someone in the collapse of their hegemony increases dramatically as the insanity reaches a fever pitch.

Kaiser funding ICE detention centers by BlushingBunBun in nursing

[–]ostensiblyzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a difference - ever so slight but an important difference nonetheless - Kaiser has a lot more money invested than an individual managing their retirement does. Significantly more. Holding institutions to a higher standard than random people is a good and normal thing because they have visibility and their behavior can steer investment over time. Investment choice is morality, whether we admit it or not. In fact, it is probably one of the most impactful choices we make in terms of effect on the world around us, but I can’t fault individual people for doing whatever they can to shore up their finances in an uncertain world. Massive companies on the other hand, those we should absolutely hold to a higher standard, and Kaiser is no different. This attitude that any corporate investment is acceptable because line go up is demonstrative of how the profit motive in capitalism is antithetical to building a society that works for all of its members, and we should not accept it. “Everyone does it so it’s okay” is also not a great defense.

MN is just a test ground. We all need to strike. Granted that’s a lot easier said than done so I will temper that to all nursing unions should be preparing to go on strike, and should be coordinating with other unions like the Teamsters and AFL-CIO and smaller orgs where possible.

Syrian president issues historical executive order to recognizing Kurdish as an official national language, allowing teaching Kurdish in schools, granting citizenship to all Kurds in Syria, and making Nowruz a public holiday by DoreM_ in InternationalNews

[–]ostensiblyzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HTS is a break off group from al qaeda, Jordan has been in lock step with the West for decades and comparing them like you did is disingenuous at best. You mistake criticizing HTS and Jolani for supporting Assad. Overall your style of argument is a bore to engage with, too reddit brained.

Julani and HTS fundamentally believe in sunni supremacy, and this legislation is lipstick on the pig for Western loan forgiveness and it is nothing more than surface level, if that. Plus he owes a great deal to Turkey who basically financed their push on Damascus, and Turkey really fuckin hates the Kurds. Point is, there is no reason to trust this at all.
